What if it was never about big arenas? @TheUKEL finals reminded me of what esports could be if it had the courage to embody what really matters. It's the community. It's the connection.
It's being able to hear both sets of fans, @Inari_eSports and @ABSOLVEDGG, cheering for every kill and being silenced when their own nexus explodes at the end of the game. What a series. The full 5 games.
As close and contested as ever I've seen. A genuine both teams could have won it affair, accompanied by a production that were exceptional on and off camera. If you were involved, in any way.
Whether as a fan or staff, thank you. Last year put a bit of a strain on my relationship with esports, but what I saw on Saturday made an old man believe again. It 𝑓𝑒𝑙𝑡 like a final, a proper cup final.
Not an emblem to arrogance, stupidity or vanity. But esports as it was and how it could be; community and connection and closeness to those that share our passion. We don't know what next year looks like.
But if it manages to capture just a fraction, of the intensity of the last moments of game five, with @UnfazedCasts delivering an end call any caster would be proud of, the rapturous cheering of the fans, the we'll be alright. We'll be alright.
LoL Esports has been around for over 15 years, a growing number of fans are getting into their 30's and soon their 40's. At some point you need to start appealing to those people if you want to create a self sustaining sport. That doesn't even seem to be on the radar of anyone at the moment.
If G2 beats HLE tonight I'll make a tweet about how the emotional and narrative sincerity is slowly being bled out of LoL Esports without anyone really noticing and, despite the efforts of some people to engage with it in a manner that respects LoL as a sport, ultimately very little is being established in a way that is conducive to keeping people engaged as fans for life.

esports needs to build institutions that take responsibility for these sorts of initiatives rather than it being in the hands of individuals. this is nothing against those people, but if 1 or 2 people and their ability/capacity to organise these events decides whether or not they go ahead, then that's a really big problem.
"sorry we couldn't have the Oscars this year because Jonathan Academy-Award was too busy"
obviously there could be host of other reasons he's made the decision, each one as legitimate as the last. but if there is something of value here it deserves the protection of being organised by an organisation.
teaching continues to be the most misunderstood profession by seemingly everyone who hasn't worked in a school.
i swear @XTeddyWestside doesn't miss

it's a very good sign that someone can be openly critical of these sorts of bodies and the result is inclusion in the conversation rather than blacklisting.
I was critical of this when it launched and I will continue to be honest and call out the industry when it gets it wrong.
However, when given the opportunity to have a voice for UK grassroots esports I’ll take it, so I’ve also been added to @uk_ie Advisory Panel.
i am begging everyone to actually read the interview that this whole "riot think tier 2 is doing well" thing came from.
it was about 2 sentences from an interview that wasn't about tier 2 at all. the actual quote was that were "great developments" in the tier 2 system specifically refering to WSCI; a tournament the likes of which has never existed in tier 2.
people are acting like someone from riot said "the erls are in a really good spot and everyone is making money and the viewership figures are trending positively". i promise you riot know that tier 2 in Europe isn't working.
i'm assuming that there are some additional safeguards in place, that obviously won't be discussed publicly, otherwise this is still absolutely exploitable.
[OFFICIAL] League of Legends replay downloads will be capped at 10 per hour starting during Patch 26.21!❌
Riot says the change is meant to stop large-scale abuse from bad actors using vibecoded apps to scrape thousands of replays.
Creators can still make content, and you can still download your own replays, as well as those from friends and other players.
inevitable consequence of the over-saturation of the lol esports calender with international events. the domestic leagues become devalued and seen as a glorified qualifying tournaments for international competitions that will inevitably be won by an LCK/LPL team.
more people need to play spec ops the line
❗️New Call of Duty game faces backlash for making players LYNCH a person
The player character is killed if they refuse to do it
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 does not make the player "lynch" anybody. The player can refuse to hang the defector, which does not fail the mission.

Worlds Tierlist but it's only teams I've watched throughout the whole split and can confidently place rather than making assessments on teams i haven't seen based on previous international performances from the team/region that may not accurately reflect current form #Worlds2022
How are UK costreamers like @Nymaera @JamadaLoL and @Caedrel streaming this Cloud Nine vs Karmine Corp game and not talking about how Yike and Loki are both talent that @_BulldogEsports developed?
This is how you know the UK scene is dead, when British streamers don't pay their dues or respect the scene, the scene they came from that built their careers.
We receive no acknowledgement for the work we've done developing young talent like Yike and Loki.
Especially from jokers like Jamada who owes his entire existence to that one split he subbed for Bulldog. We created him.
Disgusting.
describes using AI in pretty much exactly the same manner as CGI. this is a non-issue
Danny Boyle says he would use AI in filmmaking again despite the backlash for using it in Ink:
“For animals, it’s sort of a no brainer… it’s sort of part of VFX anyway at the moment, whether people want to admit it or not” #LFF
Casters too. There's a level of self-indulgence that I think holds back a cast that I've seen way too often. Be creative and have fun with it, but as soon as your focus is distracted from being a conduit for the emotion and story of the game then the cast has lost all value
the scene of faker walking whilst unemphasised imagery representing the intervening world champions was a bit weird. was he not fighting during those years too? was he just a passive observer? or was he clinging tooth and nail to greatness, refusing to acquiese until he was beaten into the dirt, only to get up and be pushed down again?
