This is mainly a sign of a good culture. Think of how many teams get selected before training. The implicit message being that training doesn't matter! This is an easy one to translate from paid professionals right down to grassroots.

Guardiola accepts players will not be happy before & after games if not selected. He builds an environment where players performance in training is what decides match day selections. This way players don't carry sulky attitudes with them into training when they are not selected.
