Now spinning…
One of the first handful of albums that I spun the daylights out of, courtesy of the Columbia House tape club. One penny bought me 8 cassettes! Who else took part in that program?

Life’s A Long Song: A Compendium of Jethro Tull in 33+1/3 songs by Richard Taylor (2024). The most recent edition to my library, this is a fun bathroom read where the author explores a random sampling of Tull songs across the years, adding personal reflection.
#JethroJuly day 30
Spin Me Back Down The Years + The Boy Scout Manual by Pat Kent with Charles Kenny and Erin Ward (2022). This is an awesome set for fans that have consumed everything else prior, it includes tons of great detail not found elsewhere…for true aficionados.
#JethroJuly day 29
Lend Me Your Ears: A Fan History by Jeffrey Houghton (2023). The most recent of the officially sanctioned books, it includes anecdotes from hundreds of fans across the globe. Best part = spotting entries from those I’ve interacted with on the socials…
And aren’t you in here @MartinMolloy6 ??? I did another skim trying to find you but failed.
Hey there’s @ChristineRitc with her awesome collection of stubs!
#JethroJuly day 28
A series of books written by Laura Shelton (2021-2023) including the coffee-table Chronicles plus several handbooks for various albums within the bands canon. Ms Shelton is clearly passionate about her subject, but these books lean heavy on archival material.
#JethroJuly day 27
Silent Singing: The Complete Collected Lyrics of Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull (2021). Another officially sanctioned book. This updated the first lyric book that came out 28 years prior and includes a bit more in the way of slight reflection plus Ian’s photos.
For those of us in the US, it’s not sounding promising for another Tull tour here anytime soon… youtu.be/X-iHXo7t_VQ?si=JjEG…

A New Day Yesterday: UK Progressive Rock in the 1970s by Mike Barnes (2020). Not a Jethro Tull book per se but a monumental tomb to my favorite musical genre. Tull is surely in here, as are all the usual suspects (Floyd, Crimson, ELP, Genesis, Yes) and …
#JethroJuly day 25
The Ballad of Jethro Tull - the official oral history (2019). This was crowdfunded in 2018, which was also the year in which my wife + I were expecting a son, thus he gets name-checked in the back of the book. There’s a small nod to Ian in his given name.
#JethroJuly day 24
Original Jethro Tull book: The Glory Years 1968-1980 by Gary Parker (2018). Another biography, and this one stands out to me for this snippet that references Ian finding inspiration in my hometown of Buffalo, New York...
#JethroJuly day 23
A New Day Tapes volumes 1, 2, 3 by David Reed and Martin Webb (2013-2020). Culled from the pages of A New Day magazine, these feature all the interviews with various Tull alumni that were originally granted to the fan magazine. Is a 4th volume forthcoming?
#JethroJuly day 22
Deluxe booksets (2012-2025). Jethro Tull have produced 18 of these (including the “Around The World Live” set) with more likely to come. Including music, video, photos, and story, these are incredible value and worth the cost for the print content alone.
#JethroJuly day 21
Prog Magazine, various issues (2011-2025). I count 13 covershots of Tull or Ian Anderson on the flagship progressive rock institution. Is there a band or artist with more among their 161 issues?
