Our client Sophia this morning - through the food slot in her cell door. Serving 40yrs-to-life for breaking into an unoccupied house when she was homeless, mentally ill & destitute. No violence. Her getaway vehicle was a bicycle. She was arrested riding it on the sidewalk.

My client just asked me my honest opinion as to why this judge wants him to die in prison. And then the phone said “you have 60 second left.” What a fucking job.

This is a great project & I wish them well. @3strikesproject gets so many letters that, I regret to say, we don’t have enough staff to even open them all.

We’re very happy for our client today—as his 79 year-to-life sentence for purse snatching was recalled and he was ordered released for time served!
Update: This morning our client was resentenced to time served & ordered released—over objection by prosecutors. ‘The best news I’ve heard in a very long time’ our client said afterward ‘a lot of ppl don’t believe in me, but I’m truly sorry for all I did & I’m going to make it.’

🎉⚖️Another great victory—esp for our client David who was sentenced to life & bet on himself when no one else would—and amazing lawyering by @MilenaBlake who never gave up on David or his case until he walked out of Folsom State Prison a free man for the first time in 22 yrs!

One of our clients—sentenced to die in prison. He was given a new chance and now drives trucks for a living. He just saw snow for the very first time in his life.
