To address concerns about school readiness, experts at the Early Years Alliance have released a list of essential skills for four-year-olds.
These include being toilet trained and recognising their name, in response to rising teacher complaints.

A Y6 child stopped me in the corridor today and asked me “Do you still read ‘The Witches’ to all your classes?”. I said “Oh, do you still remember that?”. She said “Yes! It’s one of my favourite memories”.
