//Our Trajectory Astray 🍎 NORN . . Eventually Norn's mistake is that he only sees MC as a variable towards the end. He kept MC on the ship as leverage because he wants her to sway Caleb towards his goal. Norn sees Caleb as the ideal human to lead a new civilization. He's rational, resolute, always able to make the right judgements under extreme conditions (to him, these are the perfect qualities of a leader. qualities that make Caleb the human being closest to his own ideal as an AI seemingly devoid of human emotions). What Norn wants is to recreate him, but no matter how many trials of reconstructing his personality models, either by replicating and isolating MC's memories in his head, he still couldn't do it. Because it never was about memories or just experiences, what makes Caleb Caleb is his will to protect her. The perfect example of a human who act against his own principle: Caleb only does this because she exists, and he needs to protect her. She is the reason he chooses to act, even when that choice contradicts everything else he believes. Norn even said that in the end, if MC didn't exist, would this world mean anything to him? The answer is not. Caleb wouldn't care, or at the very least, it would not be the same Caleb. Because without her, the Caleb Norn is trying to recreate simply does not exist. But Norn only sees her as a variable, he does not see her the way Caleb does. She's in no way perfect in Norn's eyes the way Caleb sees her: to Norn she's irrational, unhinged, an explosive who at any time will jeopardize his voyage towards his goal. Trying to push her out of Caleb as his last attempt was his demise. He tried to make Caleb believe she was only his illusion and that Norn could create thousands of her in a world he will create. And he almost succeeded, until Caleb be reminded again just how much she IS real and he feels just how warm his heart feels again even at the mention of her name, at the thought of going back home to her. That's where Norn finally loses. He thought could replicate her memories, recreate her image, manufacture countless versions of her. But he cannot manufacture what she means to Caleb, the tether between them that reaches beyond flesh and blood. 🍎🍏
