The vibe coded launch was a disaster, and ever since the start of this year the game has been in a glitchier state than ever with atrocious performance issues and bugs constantly popping up. Tim admits epic just deletes bug reports, how do they expect the game to be fixed by AI when they had the humans ignore longstanding issues?
Fortnite needs another 1000 employees hired to fix the game, AI absolutely can be a helpful tool for coders and programmers but you still need human developers to oversee it.
I love the game but its the only one that consistently has issues on my high end PC, Steam games haven’t ever given me a single issue since my switch to PC gaming.
Marcus Wassmer (Epic Games EVP) talks about what AI has done for Fortnite & UE so far, and why they're more worried about moving too slowly than about AI skepticism
He says it almost completely got rid of a type of cooking bug they've been fighting for a decade, and together with faster shader compression it should make update sizes way smaller
They also rewrote a big part of the DirectX 12 renderer in about a week, when he expected it to take one engineer 3-6 weeks. He says it came out with better CPU performance & fewer bugs
He says Fortnite now has automatic monitoring for PC crashes that finds driver & hardware problems that used to take months to track down, and it can generate fixes for them too
He also says the engine should get a lot more modular now, since AI can handle/refactor thousands of files that were way too much to do by hand

When I first began to stream from my Mac in 2021 having the most horrendous technical issues I would play this game quite a bit. I played it for about a year before getting bored of it, I am honestly surprised and a bit sad to hear it's getting shutdown because I was thinking of streaming it again for old time's sake.
I really loved the trainer customization, I hope the models and assets get ripped and dumped online for preservation.
It was also the closest I ever got to experiencing League of Legends.
Serebii Update: Pokémon UNITE will reach end of service on March 23rd 2027 at 00:00 UTC for both mobile and Nintendo Switch
