Harmanpreet Kaur's contribution as captain will always hold a special place in the history of Indian Cricket. She took on the responsibility at an important stage in the growth of women's cricket and helped the Indian team build on the strong foundation laid by those who came before her. Over the years, she led India through some very important moments and helped the team compete with confidence against the best in the world.
"The World Cup victory in 2025 will undoubtedly be the defining achievement of her captaincy. It was the culmination of years of progress, hard work and belief. Her Asian Games gold medals and the many important victories during her tenure further underline the contribution she has made.
On behalf of the BCCI, I thank Harmanpreet for her leadership and the responsibility she has shown throughout her tenure as captain. I am pleased that she will continue to represent India as a player. Her experience, understanding of the game and presence in the dressing room will remain valuable to the Indian team.

#WATCH | Srinagar, J&K: On India wining Gold medal in the Asian Games 2026 by Defeating Pakistan, BCCI President Mithun Manhas says, "They are by far the best team of the tournament; we have won this title nine times before and are the defending champions. The performance they have displayed this time is truly praiseworthy. They defeated arch-rivals Pakistan—though I feel the competition level isn't quite what it used to be—and the way our team handles high-pressure situations is something no other team in the country can match. It is a day of great joy, and the whole nation should celebrate. I would also like to thank Jay Shah once again; he played a significant role in building this team—and not just the men's team; our women's team also won the World Cup, and his contribution there was immense..."
A heartfelt congratulations to our incredible Indian team for bringing home the Gold at the Asian Games.
By far the best team of the tournament .
And what better honour than to have Jay Shah ji present the medals, given his contribution to the growth of Indian cricket @BCCI and his role at the @ICC
#Gold for India 🇮🇳 🏆
