October 2026 turned into a rough month for tech. PHP, GitHub Actions, npm packages, LiteLLM, and the Cursor marketplace all got hit.
Crypto had it bad too, with Binance, Polymarket, and a Coinbase vendor on the list.
Then SoftBank, Capcom, and TiDB Cloud joined in.

Gemini 4 Carbon leads fifteen of seventeen benches on the new board.
Long walks land at 96.2%
Astra still holds Frontier SWE
Opus still holds the desktop
Gemini 4 Carbon is Google DeepMind's newest frontier AI model, announced today, October 28, 2026. Google calls it "our strongest model with state-of-the-art cybersecurity and long horizon capabilities." For now it is open only to a small group of vetted cyber defenders.
Pricing: The introductory price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input 95% off.
After the intro period it rises to $4 and $20.
Context window: One newsletter lists 1M tokens. Explainx says Google hasn't stated it.
Why it exists
Reports leaked before launch said early Argon versions trailed Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 at coding.
According to those reports, Carbon's job was to close that gap in long, agent-driven coding work.

Anthropic’s new research preview app lets Claude Opus 5.5 identify priorities, complete work independently, and check in before acting on your behalf, using your existing memory and connected tools.
Built with strong safety features, it’s available via waitlist for Pro and Max users in the US, with ongoing refinements based on early feedback.

A Month of Thinking for $10
Until November 30, 2026
Google's new Gemini 4 Argon can think and write up to 1 million tokens in a single request
In human terms, that's roughly a month of focused thinking spent on one hard problem, like a tricky math proof, a deep research question or a long chain of reasoning.
At the launch price of 10 dollars per million output tokens, the whole "month" costs about ten dollars. From December 1, the price doubles to 20 dollars.
Argon is available now to paid API users and Google AI Ultra (PRO) subscribers.

Introductory API pricing starts at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.
Google says Argon helped refactor Chrome, accelerate scientific software, and identify security vulnerabilities. Built for multi-step work across coding, finance, law, and science, it supports a unified one-million-token input-output limit.
Access is rolling out TODAY through developer tools and paid Gemini subscriptions (PRO, ULTRA)
