One of the best stories from the Mexico Open you didn't hear about until now: Steven Fisk finished T2 last week, but the story is about his caddie for the week, a Americas Tour player named Mason Williams. A few weeks ago Williams finished in a three way tie for 2nd in the Americas Tour Championship. Had he finished in a two way tie...he would have earned his KFT card. Instead he finished 11th in points, one spot shy of a KFT card. And while 10th has exempt status on KFT and a guaranteed 14 starts...11th has to go back to second stage, with nothing guaranteed. Williams was feeling pretty bummed out when the phone rang. Fisk was on the other end asking if he would caddie for him in Mexico. Fisk hadn't planned to play but didn't play well in Japan so decided to add Mexico and his regular caddie had already made plans. So Fisk called Williams and the pair finished T2 and $534K. The money Williams earned from that is huge. The Americas Tour is expensive. Williams has lived wherever he could over the last few years, a few months at each place. At his moms, girlfriends, buddies, wherever it was free. "It gave some freedom to set up a permanent place to live and maybe a course to practice at. Just having the ability to think about those things is huge." Williams said over and over again how much the week meant to him, how much he learned being inside the ropes, what life is like outside the ropes on Tour, etc. He closed by saying "I can't overstate how appreciative I am of Steven offering me the job (for the week). I probably cost him a shot a day, but it was a life changing experience." Pretty awesome.
