1) Buy a used ThinkPad X270 (~$150).

2) Remove all radios & persistent storage: Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, WWAN/LTE, SSD, webcam/mic, battery (optional).
You now have a fully air-gapped, non-persistent machine.
3/ Flash TailsOS to a USB drive from an internet‑connected machine, then boot the ThinkPad.
Now you have completely air-gapped and stateless hardware + an amnesiac operating system (TailsOS)
Store the KeePassXC database inside a VeraCrypt container for real defense-in-depth against software flaws and supply-chain compromise.
Congratulations, you’ve built a setup designed to withstand nation-state-level capabilities, with encrypted data easily portable to microSD and suitable for secure, redundant backups.

Important notice for the Bitcoin community: if you are running lnd on Linux, and it has open ports, you should shut it down until you patch your Linux kernel or otherwise mitigate CVE-2026-98432.
Not lnd's fault. But there's a Linux kernel exploit with mptcp that is relevant.

Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified.
The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete.
As an immediate precaution, Binance has:
- temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;
- revoked the affected address authorisation;
- engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds.
Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice.

Companies keep getting hacked, and AI is getting very good at finding vulnerabilities. Every database holding your data is a bigger target every day. Share less, keep your own keys, use tools that never collect it. Data that was never collected can't be leaked.
I share this same sentiment regarding the delay.
That said, I prefer careful work on a solid foundation to a rushed, sloppy approach driven by external pressure, which only increases the risk of failure.
Given that so many people rely on xmr today, this delay is understandable.
Monero has a bunch of cool stuff to talk about, unfortunately none of it ships
FCMP++ was supposed to ship Feb ‘25. The current expected date is April ‘27 (over two years late, assuming no more delays [which is pretty charitable]). Additionally it looks like their most ambitious update ever will also ship without any formal verification (just classic security audits [which are not sufficient in today’s environment])
By the time this gets done, Zcash will have scaled, gone post quantum, addressed parts of the security budget, and will be deep into a roadmap around securing the networking layer of the protocol - all formally verified
So the whole picture is that Monero is years behind an outdated roadmap and entirely lacking in the modern assurances you expect from a leading blockchain in the age of super intelligence
