This is an idealistic, utopian version of the game that does not and has never existed with all too rare exceptions. I’m sorry, I genuinely wish it were like this, but it isn’t and designing the game with that perfection in mind will lead to disappointment and engagement loss.
This looks innocent, and its hard to explain, but this is exactly the type of thing that fucks up WoW Vanilla. WoW Vanilla is extremely good at forcing players to talk to eachother, help eachother, and make friends. Every single QOL you add that simplifies that process is against the core of the game. There is a reason that in Retail, you can go do 2 dungeons and 2 zones without having said a word to anyone- and when u dont need to, people simply dont. Its not about "the option", its about that ppl need to be forced into positions where they must communicate, this is what makes wow vanilla tick and why its such a hypersocial experience you cant leave without making friends.

I will not interact with the blue checkmarks. I will not interact with the blue checkmarks. I will not interact with the blue checkmarks.

Between the two mute addons, the incels are successfully limiting their pool of potential players to the smallest, least skilled, and most socially inept group possible. Well done.

Really cool changes in the fury and prot trees. More excited to play both of those specs.

I was linked this video by @BogsAdventures and he touches on a very important point that if you want a certain type of community, then you need to contribute to it. Want socialization? Chat at the campfires. Want help from someone? Offer it to others. youtube.com/watch?v=HIlug4q1…

Alright, that's enough triggering the insecure crybabies on the internet. Too much of a good thing etc etc.

Hang on, so one of the old Tom Ellis tweets they dug up was sent to dpsonroids? That was our old Midwinter GM. Did those weirdos think that wasn't a joke between friends? I actually am blown away that they are that fucking stupid.

It's because they cannot face the harsh reality that their attitudes and views are antithetical to the community they so desperately want to be a part of. Their brains glitched when they had to accept that the game they assumed was made only for them was, in fact, not. It's sad.
Wait so the racists and bigots banned from WoW Forever beta tried doxxing a developer's family and friends? At this rate just ban them from all Blizzard services if they're going to target WoW developers in such a personal and malicious nature.

Socialization in wow is so much more than being in groups with others. It's interacting with others in weird and fun ways anywhere in the world, in or out of groups. The best moments are not planned and have no goals other than enjoying the moment.

I remember running across someone random in Feralas and challenging them to a race to a distant tree. Random roleplay with someone about the nonsense of a particular lore bit. You don't get that real socialization in lfg posts or grouping to kill one quest mob.

What is World of Warcraft: Forever, and where does it sit in relation to Modern & Classic? 📺 blizz.ly/4yXBymU

This statement perfectly sums up my confusion. Game is amazing, people are being awful. Criticism or questions are not hate.

This gotta be some version of indirect stolen valor lol. Does the word “dev” not have any meaning anymore?
I'm seeing a lot of discourse about who WoW Forever is being made for and while I cannot speak for anyone else on the team I can speak for myself. I am making WoW forever for the classic gamer and for the millions of people who have had their accounts lapse over the years because they were not satisfied with changes that were made to the game. Whether those changes were to the art style, the story, social aspects, game design, or changes to their favorite class. I did not spend the last year of my life relearning and mastering how to do things like we did it 20+ years ago for retail players. I could have taken it easy and just kept doing things like I had done for the past 8 years on retail...because I was much more familiar with it and it actually takes a lot less time to do (height maps on textures do a ton of heavy lifting). Because the reality is that the majority of retail players wouldn't care and would probably actually prefer it. But I felt I had a duty to uphold an artistic vision and integrity that millions of people expect from us. But not just for our players, but for my co-workers past and present who worked on it over 20 years ago. If I could not create something that resembled their work then I failed not only them...but myself. Please do not take this as me throwing any shade at retail players or the retail team because I am one myself...but I wanted to make Forever as authentic of a Vanilla experience as possible. This involves making decisions wildly different than retail. It means holding the line against changes that create a domino affect down the road. It means keeping friction and inconveniences in the game. It means finding friends and forming groups with strangers and being social!! Because WoWs social aspects have always been the pillar of the game and over the years it has slowly been chiseled away at with changes that allow you play alone. Since the day I started working on the Riverglades I have lived by three sayings. "Convenience is the death of the journey." "If you're making a game for everyone then you're making it for no one." "Every change we make incurs a debt to the authenticity of the game and sooner or later that debt will be paid." These are my core beliefs and I had a specific group of people I was targeting with my work. These beliefs cannot be shaken and I will try to hold the line against anything that goes against them and will continue to pester the team about things that feel out of place. That being said, my hope is that Forever will pull in as many people as possible, whether you are a retail gamer, a classic gamer, someone who hasn't played in years, or even a new player. I hope you can all remember what made this game so special in the first place and that starts with understanding why we are so passionate about keeping it authentic.

No hope needed. As I said at BlizzCon, we'll be adding more content to the 1-60 leveling journey over time, as we add to this horizontally-expanding, evergreen, Classic Azeroth.
My biggest hope with WoW Forever is that when they add new content it isn't all max level content. Add a new level 40 dungeon here, a new levelling zone there, some new quests from time to time, etc.

The responses have been so funny to me because I guarantee I do more to promote social interactions in game than most of the people defending it as a pillar. They are the ones begging for summons, buying gold, etc.
