Bob Uecker's Harry Doyle calls from "Major League" became part of baseball movie history.
The famous misses, deadpan reactions and booth one-liners worked because Uecker already knew exactly how a baseball broadcast was supposed to sound. He could parody an announcer without making the character feel fake.
That's why the clips still work even for people who have heard the real Uecker call games for decades.

Looking at the face value of my Cleveland World Series ticket stub collection to see just how insane things have become for fans:
1920 World Series Game 4 Brooklyn Robins @ Cleveland Indians in League Park, 1st base box seat: $3.30
1948 World Series Game 3 Boston Braves @ Cleveland Indians in Cleveland Municipal Stadium, Lower Reserve seat: $6.25
1948 World Series Game 6 Cleveland Indians @ Boston Braves in Braves Field, Grandstand seat: $6
1995 World Series Game 3 Atlanta Braves @ Cleveland Indians in Jacobs Field, SRO: $15
1995 World Series Game 5 Atlanta Braves @ Cleveland Indians in Jacobs Field, Field Box: $60
1997 World Series Game 5 Cleveland Indians @ Florida Marlins in Pro Player Stadium, Terrace Box: $50
(Canceled) 2007 World Series Game 2 in Jacobs Field, Upper Reserve: $150
2016 World Series Game 1 Chicago Cubs @ Cleveland Indians in Progressive Field, SRO: $100
2016 World Series Game 7 Chicago Cubs @ Cleveland Indians in Progressive Field, Diamond Box 2nd row seat behind the 1st base dugout: $420
Potential 2026 World Series Game 3, Milwaukee Brewers @ Cleveland Guardians in Progressive Field SRO: $899
SRO up 9x in 10 years and up 60x in 30 years?!?
SRO game 1 costing over double what 2nd row diamond box cost for game 7 a decade ago?
What is even happening here? @MLB @CleGuardians @ProblemsMlb

Here’s the latest - They are waiting the rain out for a bit longer. See a few #Rays in the dugout. Grounds crew is taking a break. Warning track still has a few ponds of water as rain continues to fall but is in better shape than an hour ago. #Guardians

Look I'm annoyed by the possible rain delay as much as anyone but this seems a bit excessive

A Guardians-Brewers World Series would be the matchup Midwest baseball fans have been arguing into existence at family reunions for decades.
Everyone’s drinking. Three aunts will bring competing salads without actual veggies. Someone’s uncle will provide a route between Cleveland and Milwaukee that “saves you 20 minutes” and takes nine hours. And, yes, there will be little smokies in a crockpot older than the starting pitchers.
We’ve waited our whole lives for this. Get the good paper plates.
I’m begging you, baseball God’s.

The @CleGuardians are the first team in MLB postseason history to get shut out through 5 innings but then score in the 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th.

This pitch that Jose Ramirez hit for a home run was 0.74 ft above the ground.
That’s the lowest pitch hit for a playoff HR since tracking began in 2008 🤯
