It's because THAT IS the position of the Republican leadership, meaning the Mitch McConnell/John Thune faction. They are grifters who despise their own base, and they pick someone like Vivek because they take the republican votes for granted. And they have largely been proven right.

The New Deal would be impossible today because the Ralph Naderite public interest law movement explicitly went about creating a permitting and lawsuit regime in response to what they saw as the New Deal’s excessive growth. Abundance *is* the inheritor of the New Deal legacy
In 1932, FDR won 42 states. The abundance guys are in the awkward position of maintaining 1) they want to expand the tent of the Democratic party, while also 2) repudiating the economic populism of the New Deal, the biggest tent expander in the history of the Democratic party.

BREAKING UPDATE: The government pressured ABC — and ABC caved. The timing of ABC's decision, on the heels of the FCC chairman’s pledge to the network to “do this the easy way or the hard way,” tells the whole story. Another media outlet withered under government pressure, ensuring that the administration will continue to extort and exact retribution on broadcasters and publishers who criticize it. We cannot be a country where late night talk show hosts serve at the pleasure of the president. But until institutions grow a backbone and learn to resist government pressure, that is the country we are.

Get rid of her. Today. This is insane. Conservatives have fought for decades for the right to refuse service to anyone. We won that fight. Now Pam Bondi wants to roll it all back for no reason. The employee who didn’t print the flyer was already fired by his employer. This stuff is being handled successfully through free speech and free markets. This is totally gratuitous and pointless. We need the AG focused on bringing down the left wing terror cells, not prosecuting Office Depot for God’s sake.
Bondi: If you want to go and print posters with Charlie's picture for a vigil, you have to let them do that. We can prosecute you for that. We have right now our civil rights unit looking at that.

Charlie Kirk literally died defending the principle that Pam Bondi is trashing. Just unreal.
Attorney General Pam Bondi: "There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society...We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."

This is a huge deal. The existing law allowed just 20% of nearby landowners to protest any zoning change! This is why Austin has had to resort to piecemeal updates to its LDC. If signed into law, TX cities will finally be able to make much-needed changes to their zoning

This revival of mid-2000s Rage Against The Machine-style "it's not the foreigners, its the rich!" line is so funny to me because it isn't completely incorrect, yet lefties STILL come to the wrong conclusion about it. The rich are the primary beneficiaries of mass migration. To use the retarded cookie example from the picture, the only reason the rich dude is able to prevent the domestic worker from demanding more cookies is because the foreigner is willing to accept a crumb. Most lefties understand this. This is a fairly basic leftist critique of immigration and globalization’s impact on labor. Yet when you go to the next logical step, which is to suggest immigration then be halted to allow the domestic worker to seize the cookies he is owed, the modern leftist will STILL look at you like you’ve shapeshifted into Hitler. Same goes for every other discussion about migration. Importing men from backwards, misogynistic cultures - the left should, in theory, oppose this. Importing people hyper-religious conservative countries - the left should, in theory, oppose this. Importing people who have no respect for the environment or animals - the left should, in theory, oppose this. The left has a stronger, more logically consistent case against immigration than the right does. That is precisely why being anti-immigration used to be a firmly leftist position. But today, it will get you excommunicated from any leftist circle. And why? Because George Soros came along in the 80s and brutally raped every single leftist org until they were buckbroken into the perfect, unwitting stewards of global capital. Now we are stuck listening to shitlibs talk about why it's more important to be “kind” to brown people than it is to stop little girls from getting groomed by Pakistanis. And this goes back to the stupid cookie drawing. The rich guy with the stack of cookies would NEVER tell you to hate the foreigner. He’d try to convince you the foreigner is a net benefit to your society. That he brings good food and culture and pizzazz. And when that stopped working on you, he’d tell you the foreigner is better than you, and that more foreigners are needed because you’re too lazy and stupid to accept a crumb instead of a whole cookie.
Every Reform voter I’ve met, heard, seen on TV, talks about immigration first and foremost. But every Reform voter I’ve met, heard, seen on TV, claims race is not an issue. The UK accepts a tiny number of migrants compared to others, yet they are the source of all ills…

The most basic problem with "redlining as catch-all explanation" is that when you look at the famous redlining maps (e.g. below left, Philly 1937) it's instantly obvious to anyone with even a passing familiarity with the local historical geography, that the redlined districts were vast, working-class and racially mixed. At right, you can see from Brewers map of minorities in Philadelphia (1934) that of course the vast red-lined areas were quite mixed: Af Am (pink), Jewish (blue), Italian (green). (FWIW the deep red is industry, which the banks were also interested in bc they anticipated that this was going to decline and become blighted). Boston example next post
I spent a fair amount of time on Reddit while I was away from this website for Lent (I guess it’s between me and my God the extent to which that behavior satisfies the spirit of abstinence) and I think there’s really no better place right now to get a sense of the default liberal worldview. (This is interesting timing, because I think most centrists and moderates who prefer Twitter have been thinking a lot lately about the direction of right wing thought, but since I’ve been away in self-imposed isolation to liberal La La Land, this is what’s on my mind.) And this might seem sort obvious to you, already, but it’s my impression that there’s nothing that takes up more explanatory headspace in their worldview than historic housing discrimination, quite broadly construed, and redlining most specifically. It is the foundation on which everything else rests. If you want at all to understand what the average liberal believes about persistent outcome disparities, you really need to look no further. It’s this, completely this. Red lining is why we don’t have bike lanes, it explains high urban crime rates and low performing urban schools. It comes up in every sub and in discussion on any topic. It has for liberals almost magical explanatory power.
