1/6 Another large-scale operation against users of encrypted phones. This time: Google Pixels. A reseller is in pre-trial detention. Users had their homes searched and their phones seized. Appearently they were then told they are not suspects. So it's clearly about the phones🧵

5/6 Apparently they refuse to learn that this is not the way. In a state governed by the rule of law, suspicion is where an investigation begins. Here it is reversed: investigate first, look for a suspicion afterwards.
1/5 🚨BREAKING: The Rotterdam District Court has unconditionally lifted my client’s pre-trial detention in a case involving SkyECC evidence and Matrix Encrypted phones). He faces allegations of membership in a criminal organisation, money laundering and importing over 1.5 tonnes of cocaine.
4/5 We relied on the Hague Court of Appeal’s Ennetcom judgment: providing secure communications is not itself a crime. Phones found in criminal cases do not prove predominantly criminal use, nor are customer payments automatically criminal proceeds.

SkyECC evidence excluded. A landmark ruling, achieved by our members Joseph Corozzo, Andreas Milch and @Moszkowicz.
🇳🇱 Ennetcom acquitted
The company and its directors were acquitted of participation in a criminal organisation and of money laundering, with our member @Moszkowicz on the defence. This goes far beyond one case: the claim that providers of encrypted communication are "criminal by design" is exactly what authorities rely on to justify hacking entire networks such as Sky and EncroChat. That foundation is now cracking.
🇮🇹 Catanzaro – Operation "Ostro"
A major victory within the EU: SkyECC evidence excluded, 34 of 50 defendants acquitted. Our Italian member Alessandro Bavaro (@ALEBAV88) turned the European Investigation Order against the prosecution itself. A striking result.
🇳🇴 E. v. Norway – Strasbourg
Before the European Court of Human Rights, on behalf of the joint client @Moszkowicz and Vidar Lind Iversen. An important step towards a Europe-wide reckoning with SkyECC and EncroChat evidence.
Many voices are active in this field, and we respect everyone fighting this fight. But when it comes to concrete results in court, on both sides of the Atlantic, our alliance has delivered.
