A nightclub will usually have one peak of energy when it’s the most packed, the most frenzied and the highest level of spending happens. If you are a DJ that thinks “the opener can play anything“ you do not understand how to capitalize on making the venue the most amount of money. Certain exceptions will apply, but probably not frequently.
“Can you play classic disco? We are from the era and we don’t like this?” (While I’m playing Irene Cara)
Me: Do they know?
“Who?”
Me: Everyone dancing behind you…. (Dance floor is JAMMING)
“Yes, they don’t like it.”
The first time I walked into a nightclub for an all ages event… it was the original location CLUB SPACE. As I walked in, the DJ was playing an edit of “Don’t call me Baby” and “Lady” by Modjo.

This video of Dolly Parton covering Stairway to Heaven is going around. Here's a higher quality version for you to enjoy. RIP to the Queen of Country and an absolute angel on Earth.

One of the all-time great Rock Hall moments: Dolly’s “Jolene” with Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Pat Benatar, Annie Lennox, Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran), Pink, and Sheryl Crow. Zac Brown Band held it down as the house band.
Rest easy, Dolly 🤘
$1 says Tyga puts out a statement saying the album was made by AI and anyone who thought he would do this is a fool.
Guy: Can you play some Bad Bunny?
Me: This is a disco club. I play mostly disco and descendant music that relates in a way that makes sense while staying true to the soul of the club.
Guy: But like, can you play some Bad Bunny so I can grind on a bitch?
Me: I’ll see what I can do. (I won’t see what I can do.)
Guy requests “Chemical Brothers” for 45 mins… I finally find an avenue to make it work. I liked the challenge. Guy is at the bar, doesn’t notice. 🥲
If I had three musical wishes:
1. Jimi Hendrix lives to be an old man. Releases more albums. Lives to see himself inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
2. Lynyrd Skynyrd never gets on that airplane.
3. Michael Jackson and Prince never have tension. They form a record label focusing on talent, musical ability and creative force. They both live beyond what they did and become the biggest music label on earth.
