Last year I was asked to give a talk on dietary #nitrate supplementation. I decided to update our last paper: bit.ly/2DyqTXo for it. I found +26 trials. Here it is: bit.ly/2KsRBCh . No journal submission, but it has been peer-reviewed by the big guy 😇:
Newest paper from our research group:

On Friday the govt announced its plan to radically change uni fees, and the headlines rightfully focussed on those 110% hikes to humanities degrees.
But now the full plan is out and the real story is clear: this is a massive defunding of tertiary education. THREAD.

"Elsevier’s scientific publishing arm reported profits of £724m on just over £2bn in revenue. It was a 36% margin – higher than Apple, Google, or Amazon posted that year."
Bad for science?😬it's a £19bn shakedown.

Absolutely no need for academic conferences to have a €400-500 registration fee. Institutional budgets are tightening and this isn’t helping. Streamline your events.

During my first PhD meeting my supervisor @michaelleveritt mentioned the importance of knowledge translation - getting it into the hands of people/orgs that can put it to practical use. Foodworks was the aim.
As for the name...I couldn't resist🤣

I continually see studies conducting vascular measures without dietary standardisation.Measuring dietary nitrate/nitrite intake prior to a trial is essential to control for a variable that can significantly impact results. This will help:

In our latest paper, we show that higher adherence to the Mediterranean diet is associated with better cognitive function in older U.K. adults, particularly those at elevated risk of CVD - academic.oup.com/ajcn/advanc…
Next step will be plugging any holes. It would be good to have support from companies like @QuornFoods. Meat cops flack for its higher nitrite content. It'd be another health win for companies that use meat alternatives if they showed lower levels.
