Now and then: Navi Pillay This year's peace laureate Navi Pillay has been a champion for international legal order for her whole life. Pillay grew up in a family of Indian Tamil descent in Durban, South Africa, where in 1967 she founded her own law firm. In the 1980s she studied at Harvard University and earned a doctor's degree. The first picture was taken during her studies at Harvard. Pillay later became the first non-white female judge of the High Court of South Africa. Today she works as a judge on the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

COVID-19 prevention shouldn't be limited to periods of increased transmission. COVID-19 continues to circulate year-round, making consistent prevention an important part of protecting individual and community health. Improving indoor air quality, wearing well-fitting respirators, and supporting accessible prevention measures can help reduce transmission in everyday settings. Prevention should be built into our schools, workplaces, healthcare facilities, and shared spaces, not treated as a temporary response to surges. #COVID19 #COVIDPrevention #PublicHealth #COVIDIsNotOver #LongCOVID

Africa’s health security depends on a skilled public health workforce. But training alone is not enough. The skills people gain must also be recognised. With Africa facing a projected shortage of 5.85 million health workers, Africa CDC is introducing a new accreditation framework to improve the quality of public health training and ensure that learning is recognised. Developed with the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA), the framework will help ensure that training builds the right skills and delivers real results. Investing in training matters. Making sure it counts matters even more. Read more | africacdc.org/news-item/afri… #AfricaCDC #PublicHealth #HealthWorkforce
