Palestinians won the world's attention. But we lost Gaza. On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched its terrorist attack on Israel and massacred hundreds of Israeli civilians. Israel answered with a war on Gaza of unprecedented scale. Almost three years later, more than 74,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed and over 150,000 wounded. Nearly 90% of Gaza's homes are damaged or destroyed. Schools, universities, hospitals, roads, water and power: almost nothing is left standing. Yes, the world is finally paying attention to Palestinian suffering. Yes, people everywhere are demanding it stop. Hamas and its supporters call this an achievement. It isn't. It is the natural result of the horror the whole world has watched unfold in Gaza. Their sympathy is not victory. We lost Gaza. We lost tens of thousands of lives: children, mothers, fathers, entire families wiped from the civil registry. We lost a generation of children to death, hunger, amputation, and trauma. We lost doctors, nurses, teachers, journalists, poets, and students who were meant to build our future. We lost cities that took generations to build, now buried under rubble. And no amount of global attention will bring any of it back. The people of Gaza paid the price for a decision they never made. It's a catastrophe, a second Palestinian Nakba.
