Ambassador Matthijs van Eeuwen has presented his letters of Credence to H.E. Hakainde Hichilema, formally beginning his accreditation to Zambia.π³π±π€πΏπ²
The Netherlands and Zambia share strong and longstanding ties, with a commitment to further growing trade and cooperation in sustainable agriculture, water management, health and other sectors. This includes through the Lobito Corrido, as well as many ongoing Dutch-Zambia partnerships across the public and private sectors and civil society. π
The Netherlands has announced changes to its worldwide diplomatic network, including the planned closure of the Embassy in Harare.
We recognise that this is significant news for our partners and friends in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, given the many strong relationships we have built over the years.
The decision is part of a broader restructuring of the Netherlandsβ diplomatic network and does not change our appreciation for the close ties or our commitment to working with the respective governments and other partners across the region.
We are focused on ensuring a careful transition towards closure and continued cooperation with our networks in the period ahead.

Ambassador van Eeuwen and embassy staff visited the EU Delegation to sign the condolences book for Ambassador Katrin Hagemann, expressing our sadness at this terrible loss.
In conversation with her friends and colleagues in the room, we learned more about her remarkable achievements, her commitment to public service, and the warmth and humanity she always carried with her.
We remember not only an accomplished diplomat and colleague, but also a deeply respected and much-loved person who made a lasting impression on so many. Katrin will be deeply missed.ποΈ
Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with the family, friends and colleagues of Ambassador Katrin Hagemann following this terrible and shocking news.
We will remember Katrin as trusted, compassionate and invaluable colleague and leader. ποΈ
We continue to work on shared economic priorities between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands. π³π±πΏπΌπ
πThe Netherlands is honoured to take on the role of Co-Chair of the Land Working Group under the Structured Dialogue Platform. We hosted a first meeting with fellow co-chairs (@UNDPZimbabwe and the Office of the President and Cabinet) with AfDB joining in to discuss roles and responsibilities, next steps on BIPPA, emerging priorities on land in Zimbabwe, and how to keep the good momentum of the previous working group going.
πAmbassador van Eeuwen also welcomed @ZimTradeAlerts CEO Allan Majuru to the Embassy. Our teams reflected on a fantastic decade of cooperation between ZimTrade and the Netherlands which spans support to entrepreneurs and SMEs up to large companies and producers.
Of course, the huge impact of @PUM_nl was a highlight among other joint projects contributing to Dutch-Zim economic relations. It was also exciting to look ahead to new opportunities to work together. There is so much more we can do!π€
Thank you to Honourable Vice President of Zimbabwe, Colonel (Rtd) Kembo Mohadi, for warmly welcoming Ambassador van Eeuwen today.
A good first meeting and courtesy call, during which they discussed the ever-growing Dutch-Zimbabwean trade ties, our collaboration in water management and agriculture, and the ongoing BIPPA compensation and arrears clearance processes.
We look forward to building on the strong partnership between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands.πΏπΌπ€π³π±
π³π±π¬πΏπΌ Last week we welcomed RVO's private sector development advisor for Zimbabwe, Matthijs Brouwer, for a busy and inspiring joint visit with the Embassy to Dutch private sector development partners across Zimbabwe.
RVO is the Netherlandsβ enterprise agency, funded by the @DutchMFA. Its 6,500 staff work worldwide to build partnerships and turn ideas into sustainable, inclusive business and trade.π§βπ»
πΆοΈ In Victoria Falls, @ForNtengwe is using RVO support to grow a chilli business that creates livelihoods while helping reduce human-wildlife conflict.
π« In Marondera, we toured @kumindafresh blueberry farm and packhouse, seeing how an innovative model is helping small growers connect to EU markets. Kuminda are currently growing a Dutch variety of blueberries.
π Matthijs met Dutch-linked businesses in FMCG, logistics and agriculture to hear what is getting in the way of trade, and where there are opportunities to do more.
π We also caught up with @SATZimbabwe and Christian Aid, supporting small-scale farmers in the paprika and sesame and spice value chains. Read more here: heraldonline.co.zw/zimbabwe-β¦
π And with Dutch company Holland Greentech, we learned more about the Safe Taste Protocol and efforts to improve food safety and healthy food choices in local supermarkets.
Matthijs returns to the Netherlands with fresh ideas and plans to strengthen Dutch support for #SDG8: decent work and economic growth in Zimbabwe.
Thanks to all our partners for the warm welcome. π
πWhat a day! πΏπΌπ
Makorokoto to each and every one of the 693 students who graduated from @youngafricazw Chitungwiza campus!
It was our joy to be part of this special occasion, celebrating alongside friends and family as graduates received their hard-earned certifications in a wide range of fields, from construction and solar energy to automotive, culinary arts, welding and many more.
Young Africa is nearing an incredible 500,000 young people trained over the years across the region. π
But itβs about more than just technical skills. Young Africa helps young people build confidence, resilience and the skills they need to navigate the challenges of becoming independent adults, opening doors to livelihoods, and a brighter future.
π³π± The Netherlands is proud to support this life-changing work through Young Africaβs #Skills2Live programme, a cornerstone of the Dutch Regional SRHR programme.
πCongratulations, graduates! Your journey is just beginning.
πΏπΌπ€π³π±Thank you @CarlJoshuaNcube and @Nelsyncube for an eye-opening conversation about the #StreetFoodManifesto. Impressive work advocating for culinary diversification, particularly through a stronger street food and night market culture in Zimbabwe.
πFascinating to explore how intertwined histories across continents have shaped todayβs diets, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. And how smart policies can shape a more diverse and vibrant food culture, with great potential to boost Zimbabweβs tourism, entrepreneurship and youth employment. π§βπ³

π³π±π¬πΏπΌ This week, the @PUM_nl country team for Zimbabwe came together for their team meeting and to connect with businesses, partners and entrepreneurs benefiting from Dutch expertise in Harare, Honde Valley, Nyanga and Victoria Falls.
PUM links seasoned Dutch experts with local companies to provide practical, hands-on advice to help businesses grow and overcome challenges in many sectors.π§βπ»
πThis year marks a decade of partnership between PUM and @ZimTradeAlerts. This has been an incredibly effective MoU, with 40 - 80 Dutch experts visiting Zimbabwe each year since! They volunteer their time, and bring practical knowledge and experience to support business growth.
Congratulations to ZimTrade and the PUM team for a decade of commitment in strengthening businesses, increasing exports, and deepening Dutch-Zim economic cooperation. As we learned during a welcome reception - there are so many inspiring stories to be told! #watchthisspace
