It’s #FieldWorkFriday!
This week, our field team traveled to Benton, CA, to upgrade equipment that helps keep ShakeAlert’s earthquake early warning system connected. 🏔️
This is just the start! More regional monitoring sites are expected to receive upgrades over the next year.
Nevada’s landscape can make wildfire monitoring difficult. ALERTWildfire has deployed 6 mobile cameras this year to help first responders keep safe on the ground, monitor flare-ups, and protect Nevada communities.🔥
Want to see the camera feeds? Visit ALERTWildfire.org! 📷
The NSL team had so much fun meeting all of the curious minds at @unevadareno’s Day at the Museum this past Saturday. Thank you to everyone who stopped by! 💙

How can seismic data become art? 🎨
ReBloom: Reno, a new display created by artist Ken Goldberg, transforms live seismic data from across Nevada into vibrant, changing visuals.
We’re excited to see NSL’s research inspiring creativity and making science more accessible!

Our NSHE System Administration team joined students, faculty, and staff across Nevada for today's Great Nevada @ShakeOut, taking a few minutes to practice what to do during an earthquake.
As you can see, our team had a little fun along the way! 😄 But the reminder is an important one: knowing what to do before an earthquake happens can make all the difference.

🫨Happy #ShakeOut Day! Hope everyone had a good drill this morning.🫨
Do you know what to do when an earthquake hits? Practice an earthquake drill!
Register for ShakeOut on Thursday, October 15 at 10:15 at ShakeOut.org/Nevada.
Packing ahead of time can help you be better prepared for unexpected #earthquakes.
Take a few minutes today to make sure your emergency necessities are ready!
Field Work Friday! 🚁
This week, the NSL field team took flight to Santa Rosa Peak to install remote wildfire surveillance to monitor lingering hot spots from the McConnell Fire.
Thanks for the lift @lasvegashelitack!

Two #earthquakes (magnitudes 4.3 and 5.2) occurred near Silver Springs today at 1:15am and 1:18am! You can see the aftershock rate pick up after those events on this #seismogram from station PWRL. PWRL was installed April 15th, the day after the 5.7, to monitor aftershocks.
Had a great time at University of Nevada Day at @washoecounty. We got to talk to county employees about #earthquake and #wildfire monitoring and show Luna a seismometer!
If you're in N. Nevada you probably felt or at least heard about the magnitude 5.7 earthquake on Monday evening. Check out our video summary of the event and aftershocks on our Instagram: tinyurl.com/mrymdky9
Thank you @Pres_Sandoval, we're always proud to represent the Pack!
Thank you to the @tahoefund, our partners, donors, and everyone who voted for the @unevadareno Nevada Seismological Laboratory's ALERTWildfire during Tahoe Fund's "Tahoe Project Madness" event! We are grateful for your support and confidence in this critically important program that has stopped over 100 Tahoe-area fires before reaching one acre. Early detection of wildfires reduces the risk of catastrophic wildfires and protects Lake Tahoe. #GoPack
Nevada is one step closer to having @USGS_ShakeAlert earthquake early warning
Earthquake Roundup for Nov 14, 2025 to Jan 11, 2026. We had a few good shakes in Susanville, Midas, and Yerington and a false alarm in Carson City. Learn more in our Roundup Reel: tinyurl.com/4yvkssxd
The warning for an M5.9 earthquake near Dayton, NV this morning was an incorrect alert issued by the USGS ShakeAlert program. None of the stations in the Nevada Seismological Laboratory network detected any large earthquakes in Nevada this morning.
