New York, it's Halloweekend! Important reminders:   1. If you're hitting any haunted houses with children, make sure to act scared so that they feel brave, like I did tonight at @nycparks’ Mad Labs Halloween Festival in Queens.   2. Make sure to vote! Early voting ends Sunday. Free pens. Costumes allowed. Get out there.

For too long, Third Avenue in Brooklyn has been deadly. We are changing that. We will transform Third Avenue to protect pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. And across this city, we are making the most dangerous streets safer for New Yorkers. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/10/…

For 25 years, the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) has helped hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers find support, stability and the promise of a safer future. This week we celebrated the survivors, advocates, providers, and dedicated public servants who make this work possible. Now, with a $15.7 million increase to the Office’s budget, we're expanding on the work and ensuring every New Yorker can live free from violence.

Just last month, DoorDash couldn’t seem to find the money to pay their deliveristas — until our administration forced them to give back $131M+ in stolen wages and penalties. This week, they’ve managed to find $17 billion to acquire one of their main competitors. Corporate consolidation means higher prices, harsher exploitation, and greater economic inequality for New Yorkers. We’ve stood up to these giants before. That doesn’t stop now.

Over a century ago, thousands of Italian families arrived on the shores of New York City searching for a better life. Sicilians moved onto Elizabeth Street and Neapolitans laid down roots on Mulberry. Calabrians made homes on East 109th and their Baresi neighbors did the same on 112th. Even as they were told they were too foreign, too different, too working class, Italian New Yorkers made their mark on this great city --  from Mother Cabrini, to Fiorello LaGuardia, to Martin Scorsese, and countless more. That history of greatness is felt in every neighborhood across every borough, and it was an honor to celebrate it at Gracie Mansion last night.

I grew up in a world Dolores Huerta helped make. Every time a worker in this city organizes for a fair wage, every time a tenant, delivery worker, or a nanny stands up and demands better, they join a tradition she forged. She led without asking permission. She organized farmworkers when the country looked away, took the grape boycott to every corner of America, and won protections that changed millions of lives. Her work started in California’s fields, but it was never only for California. Families in New York, in Texas, and in the Midwest followed in her footsteps and learned from her example, without ever meeting her. Her bravery and fight for justice continued until the very end of her life, when she came forward to share the truth about what she had survived -- even though silence would have been easier. She taught us that sí se puede and lived it every day. New York mourns Dolores Huerta. Let us honor her by continuing the work.
