If it looks like an Amazon delivery and drives like an Amazon delivery, then it's an Amazon delivery, right? Not according to Amazon.
Big companies like Amazon have built a vast network of subcontractors who deliver their packages while shielding them from accountability.
It leaves our workers unprotected and our streets less safe. It's time for a change.
I'm proud to support the Delivery Protection Act to crack down on exploitative subcontracting and build an economy that works for everyone.

NYC Emergency Management just wrapped a coordination call with the National Weather Service and City agencies. Here's where things stand and what's ahead.
What's happened so far
🌧️ About half an inch to an inch of rain has fallen across the city.
🌬️ Gusts have reached 45 mph citywide and up to 55 mph at JFK. NYC Parks has received about 640 requests for downed or damaged trees since Friday, most in Queens and Brooklyn.
🌊 Jamaica Bay reached major flood levels with this morning's high tide, and parts of Long Island Sound reached moderate flooding.
What's ahead
🌧️ Tonight, about 8 p.m. through mid-morning Sunday: The heaviest rain arrives in bands falling at up to 1 inch per hour. Some areas could see 2 inches overnight, with localized amounts up to 3 inches. Isolated flash flooding is possible.
🌬️ Tonight into Sunday morning: Gusts of 45 to 55 mph continue, with an isolated gust to 60 mph possible. More downed trees and power outages are likely.
🌊 Tonight's high tide: Around 8:15 to 9 p.m. on the south shore and near midnight along Long Island Sound. Moderate flooding is expected in Jamaica Bay and the Rockaways.
🌊 Sunday's high tides: Around 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. on the south shore and around noon along the Sound. Moderate flooding is expected in Jamaica Bay and the Rockaways. The midday tide could bring more widespread moderate flooding to the coastal Bronx and northern Queens, including parts of Flushing and Astoria. Staten Island and Lower Manhattan should see minor flooding.
🌤️ Sunday afternoon: Winds drop off to gusts around 35 mph. Scattered heavy showers are possible into the evening, and showers linger into Monday.
🏖️ City beaches are closed to swimming and lifeguards are not on duty. Life-threatening rip currents are expected, so stay out of the water.
🚗 Tonight through late Sunday morning is the worst time to travel.
City crews are clearing downed trees, responding to flooding, and keeping rescue teams staged along the coast.
✅ If you live in a basement, be ready to move to a higher floor. Never walk or drive through floodwater, and stay away from downed lines.
🌳 Report fallen trees to 311.

BREAKING: Mayor Zohran Mamdani announces a first-of-its-kind office focused on organizing workers in New York City.
The Mayor’s Office of Worker Power will provide workers with resources needed to organize their workplaces, hold public hearings on major worker issues, and more.

New York City is on verge of ending a huge chunk of Amazon's exploitation.
Right now Amazon technically doesn't employ tens of thousands of drivers.
These drivers officially work for other companies, but in reality those companies function like Amazon subsidiaries.
This loophole lets Amazon get away with not being responsible for all of these workers — who are exposed to unsafe working conditions and experience numerous accidents and injuries.
Now the New York City Council is close to closing that loophole, and Zohran Mamdani is throwing his weight behind the legislation too.

Today’s storm event continues with more expected on the way. Commissioner Farrell is on Peck Ave in Flushing (a neighborhood hard hit by the remnants of Hurricane Ida), assessing storm damage, speaking with residents, and distributing NYCEM flood recovery kits.
The kits were purchased by this administration after the last major storms that affected many Queens residents. They are distributed as needed in the hardest hit areas so homeowners can quickly get water out of their basements. Each kit includes a pump, extension cord, squeegee, hose, and anti-mold spray, an investment to help people in the immediate aftermath of flooding.
If you live in a basement apartment or a home that floods, know your exits and move to a higher floor when heavy rain is forecast or begins. Never stay in or re-enter a flooded basement.
If your property was damaged during the storm today, 7/18, report it to help assess citywide impact. Damage report: reportdamage.nyc.gov. Request city services: nyc.gov/311 or call 311.

KN95 masks are available at public library branches across all five boroughs to protect the health of New Yorkers, especially those at greatest risk from wildfire smoke.
Pick one up at:
📚 Brooklyn Public Library locations
📚 Queens Public Library locations
📚 St. George Library Center (Staten Island)
📚 Bronx Library Center (the Bronx)
📚 Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, NYPL's main branch (Manhattan)
If you must be outside when air quality is poor, a well-fitting KN95 or N95 mask can reduce inhalation of fine particulate matter.

New Yorkers are facing two environmental health challenges at once: extreme heat and the potential for wildfire smoke. Heat is the deadliest weather hazard and poses a greater immediate risk to life than the air quality levels currently forecast.
✅ If you do NOT have air conditioning at home, go to a cooling center — even if air quality is poor. A cool indoor space protects you from both heat and smoke.
✅ If you DO have air conditioning, stay in your cool space. Don't travel outdoors in search of cleaner air.
✅ Keep windows and doors closed and set your AC to recirculate indoor air. During extreme heat, do not turn off your air conditioning — cooling remains the priority.
✅ Check on your neighbors, especially older adults and those without AC.
Nearly 600 cooling centers are open across the five boroughs, including accessible and pet-friendly sites.

Smoke from significant wildfires burning in western Ontario, Canada may affect New York City's air quality. The smoke plume is moving across New York State, and the extent and timing of any ground-level impacts in the city remain uncertain.
Any temporary spikes in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) are currently expected to stay below air quality health advisory triggers, but conditions can change. NYC Emergency Management is monitoring wildfire activity and smoke plume forecasts in coordination with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the National Weather Service, and we will alert New Yorkers if conditions worsen.
Know your risk. If you're sensitive to air quality, including older adults, children, pregnant individuals, and people with heart or lung conditions, plan to be in a cool indoor space with air conditioning or filtration.
