We warned this would happen. ICE shot a Bronx neighbor today.
New York needs answers, accountability, and ICE out of our city now!

ICE tears apart families, terrorizes our neighbors, and kills with impunity. It cannot be reformed. It must be dismantled.
I’m proud to lead 100+ New York elected officials calling on Minority Leaders Schumer and Jeffries—and every congressional Democrat—to abolish ICE.

Tomorrow's combination of dangerous heat and unhealthy air is a serious threat to New Yorkers’ health.
If you can, stay somewhere cool with air conditioning, limit your time outdoors, drink plenty of water, and check on your neighbors — especially older New Yorkers and anyone with a health condition.
Our agencies are mobilizing citywide to support New Yorkers.
Cooling centers are open tomorrow. Call 311 or visit finder.nyc.gov/coolingcenter… for locations.
Free KN95 masks are available at hundreds of locations citywide: on.nyc.gov/freemask.

My #BanTheScan bill is more urgent than ever. Madison Square Garden’s biometric surveillance puts New Yorkers’ privacy at risk, and a recent breach exposed millions. Read my op-ed with Michelle Dahl at @STOPSpyingNY.

In a difficult year with limited resources, I appreciate @NYCMayor's honest accounting of our financial obligations & adeptly securing major support from Albany to balance the city’s budget. I’m pleased this budget has more $ for parks, CUNY, libraries, culturals & local schools.

Opinion: The Knicks won. Their fans lost their privacy. It’s time to ban the scan. @CMShahanaHanif @STOPSpyingNY

We stand in solidarity with our fellow union member who was injured while serving New Yorkers today.
City Council staff work every day to support constituents. No one should face violence for doing their job.
We're wishing our colleague a full and speedy recovery.
The NYPD is investigating.
My staff member suffered a head injury during today’s incident and is receiving medical attention. The videos have been turned over to the precinct as part of the investigation.
Violence against public servants doing their jobs is unacceptable.

⚠️ Caution - Phil Wong’s account is inconsistent with video footage of the interaction
The footage shows Wong’s Staffer as the aggressor and the proportionality and reasonableness of the response of the worker he assaulted.

Today the New York City Council adopted budget of $125.8 billion for Fiscal Year (FY)2027. As the Chair of the Higher Education Committee, I am particularly proud of the historic investments we’ve secured for @CUNY and more.

NO NEW COPS

ALT “I am proud to have worked closely with the Mayor and public safety advocates to ensure there was no increase to the NYPD’s headcount in this budget. Every dollar we spend on policing and incarceration means money we can’t spend on housing, mental health care, substance use treatment, and economic stability: the proven policies that actually keep our communities healthy and safe. This budget is an important check on the failed policy of broken windows policing and will allow us to build a public safety infrastructure rooted in care, not punishment and incarceration. And we will keep building on it.”

Today, we welcome Rafael home. His release is a victory made possible by solidarity. Council Members, staff, and union members stood together, writing letters so Rafael knew he was never alone. This never should have happened. No one should be detained for following the law.
Replying to @SpeakerMenin
After 158 days in unjust ICE detention, our Council colleague Rafael Rubio was finally released.
He followed the rules. He showed up for a routine appointment. And after months of legal action and advocacy, he is home where he belongs.
We could not be more overjoyed or inspired by Rafael’s strength.
