Replying to @chrisabercromb7
@chrisabercromb7 President of the @NZPPTA spoke to AEU Federal Conference about the wins secured my teachers in the last enterprise agreement, and the current issues they are having under a new conservative government.
The Govt is planning to enable local state schools to convert to privately run charter schools – with huge cost and implications – yet it is refusing to release information or consult with those communities who will be directly affected.

What do you wish you'd known as a PCT? What knowledge do you wish you could pass on to other early career teachers? How do you manage burnout, especially after covid?
Chaired by PPTA Acting President @chrisabercromb7, the panel answers these questions and more.
#PCT2023PPTA
The panel discuss covid:
It's increased the expectations of what kaiako can do. As well as the classroom kids I provided pastoral care for, during covid there were 150 extra kids I had to check in with.
We had to ramp everything up, & we haven’t yet dialled it back.

- Find a mentor.
- No one will tell you if you're working too much. You need to manage your own workload.
- Know your rights. Get a hobby. Find your people.
- It gets easier!

Matua Anthony: "I use the pōwhiri concept to set the classroom learning environment and behaviours for students to be the best versions of themselves."
