Don Jazzy recently launched a tech scholarship in partnership with TS Academy, advertising up to 100% off tuition fees worth as much as ₦447,000. While the application form itself is free to fill and submit, selected applicants are still required to pay a discounted “application” or acceptance fee of about ₦22,900 before they can complete enrolment and start the programme. Not everyone who applies will be selected. For those who are chosen, however, the remaining fee creates a significant barrier for low-income applicants who were drawn in by the scholarship branding. A genuine scholarship should not still demand thousands of naira from people who can barely afford it after they have already been told they were selected. This setup risks misleading hopeful applicants who see “Don Jazzy scholarship” and assume the main financial obstacles have been removed. Anyone considering applying should carefully check the full terms and only proceed if they can comfortably pay the required fee after selection.
