We did it! 🙌🥳 My statement on the historic repeal: Today, I stand in profound relief and gratitude as I reflect on the repeal of the presumption of contact, a moment I witnessed firsthand. I'm grateful to the @MoJGovUK for inviting me and others in to personally share the news that the presumption was finally being repealed. I cried tears of joy and relief, and profound sadness at the harm the presumption of contact caused in my life and many others. This is not just a law change, it is victory and vindication for countless families whose lives have been fractured by a system that, for too long, prioritised presumptions over people. The presumption of contact devastated my life. It placed me, and many others, in impossible situations, where the family court system failed to prioritize the safety and well-being of those it was meant to protect. That pain fueled my resolve, and since 2018, I have campaigned tirelessly for reform. I demanded the repeal from every responsibile Minister and Secretary of State during the last 7 years who all made excuses, and said it couldn't be done. It's always impossible until it's done. This repeal is a testament to the power of persistent advocacy and the courage of survivors who held the line. It is a step toward a family court system that listens, protects, and prioritises the needs of children and families above rigid assumptions. While this moment marks progress, the fight for a fairer, more compassionate justice system continues. I dedicate this victory to every person who has suffered under the old rules and every voice that refused to be silenced. 🚨A renewed push for mandatory shared care is being sold as fair and child-centred. Its neither. It is a pushback against moves to prioritise safety over contact. Most private law cases involve domestic abuse. Forcing equal time in those cases doesn't protect children, it creates ongoing proximity to an abuser. Children are not units to be divided equally. Once an abusive father takes the case to family court, the threat becomes constant. Any attempt to protect the children, set a boundary, or speak the truth can be turned against the mother. He wants to restrict her, control her, or remove the children. This is the omnipresent threat at the heart of weaponised proceedings. She is permitted to tell almost none of what she actually heard. ⚖️🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 CASE LAW [ENGLAND AND WALES] A High Court judge has ordered a mother to pay £27,100 of the father’s costs after sexual-abuse allegations against him were not proved. Non-proof alone does not equal falsehood or embellishment. In FAZ v MAZ [2026] EWFC 301, Mr Justice Poole went further: he found the mother was at times inconsistent, embellished and was dishonest in building her case, adopting a view “untethered from reality,” even though she genuinely believed the abuse and had not coached the child. Costs orders in children cases remain rare and require unreasonable conduct. The judge reduced the fathers claim for £257k, because he'd hired an extensive team, and a more proportionate £108k was ringfenced in costs. The judge ordered the mother pay 25 %. For years that presumption was a blunt instrument, reinforcing a pro-contact culture in which findings of domestic abuse, coercive control or risk of harm were too often ignored. I was present at the Ministry of Justice when the government announced this repeal. It followed years of campaigning that began with my own experience in the family courts and was built through frontline casework, research and the voices of thousands of mothers.
