As the episode approaches its sixth anniversary, Declaration of War continues to stand as a timeless masterpiece. It expertly builds tension and suspense from the very first moment to the last scene.
Even in the weakest part of the final season, it still holds up and wasn’t a significant issue or ruined my enjoyment while watching. It’s honestly impressive that it looks the way it does given the 8 months they had to work on 16 episodes.
The gradual dismantling of Eren’s character was fitting within the story. Those who identify with or admire him should recognize his flaws and contradictions, as these aspects also define his character, whether you like it or not.
Eren Yeager's Voice Actor Yuki Kaji says Eren is the 'Biggest Fool' in New Interview about the character:
“He’s the biggest fool of all, the most human of all—an ordinary madman. He exists within all of us.”
He says his view completely changed about Eren, when asked 12 years ago what was the appeal about him his answer was:
“His unwavering commitment to his own sense of justice, his anger and hatred toward ‘what he considers evil’”
He was asked recently if he still stands by his statement.
He says: “At that time, I hadn’t even grasped half of the story yet, so I don’t think my interpretation then can be compared to my current one now that the series has concluded. After all, the truths that have been revealed since this film are likely the very essence of the work, there’s no doubt that the qualities I mentioned in my answer 12 years ago are also part of who he is.”
We are gonna be 80 years old, and people will still fail to understand the motives of Eren’s character for doing the Rumbling.
The passing of Hiroshi Tsuchida is devastating news because, for me, he always delivered the best voice acting performance in the entire anime. Rest in peace, legend.
Honestly, I don’t feel jealous of the people who are now watching Aot for the first time because there’s genuinely no better experience than watching it while the manga and anime were ongoing. You had to be there.
“It was all what I wanted.”
>shows him pushing his father to kill the Reiss family
>shows him massacring in Liberio
>shows him commencing the Rumbling to commit omnicide
Sawano and Yamamoto are some of the greatest composers of all time, up there with the likes of Ludwig and Zimmer. But y’all aren’t ready for that discussion.
There is no way for me to fully express how thankful I am for the Mappa staff working on Attack on Titan. They achieved something I thought was completely impossible. They effortlessly captured the scale and terror of The Rumbling.
I still can't believe this adaptation is real!
The fact that Mappa animators were able to adapt all of this from the manga and exceed my expectations is still insane to me.
