Hot off the presses in @eLife! Work with @matt_k_leonard, Matthias Sjerps & Eddie Chang (@ChangLabUCSF). Here, we combine behavior, ECoG recordings, & computational modeling to examine the neural encoding of a temporal speech cue (VOT) in human STG [1/7] elifesciences.org/articles/5…

My Lord, how have I not read this book before now? I'm only on page 19, and I've already dogeared it to death. If I wait until I'm done to do quotes like I usually do, it'll be the longest post in history. Instead, I'll do them as I go.

Nobody wants to make mistakes, but we all do! Consider setting aside a lab meeting this year to talk about how to prevent and detect errors in your own work. More at ErrorTight.com.
In episode 41, @juliafstrand and @jpeelle talk about Error Tight, Julia’s project to help others avoid making errors in their work. Research mistakes reflect a failure of systems rather than a failure of people—so let’s improve our systems! juiceandsqueeze.net/41

It’s been a long road to get here, but our paper (with @YuliaOganian, @ChangLabUcsf, and Jeffery Hall) is now out in @CellCellPress! We found that speech processing may partly bypass A1 using ECoG recordings, stimulation, and an ablation case study. authors.elsevier.com/c/1dbe2…

Y’all! Check out my new paper in press at JEP:LMC w/ first author @violetsarebrown + @juliafstrand! Grammatical number cues guide listeners’ expectations & constrain (but don’t extinguish) activation of grammatically incongruent referents that sound the same. Prereg + OpenData!
To celebrate our latest VWP (Visual World Paradigm) paper being accepted (!!), @juliafstrand and I have created a new paradigm: the DWP (Drinkable World Paradigm) 🧵

Ancient/Evergreen advice on making figures for scientific articles (or anything): “Statistical projections which speak to the senses without fatiguing the mind possess the advantage of fixing the attention on a great number of important facts.” - Alexander von Humboldt (1814)
