So glad Epic finally added PCG to UEFN. I can finally have procedural rocks to cover the ~18,065 km² of playable terrain in my Apollo Moon project. I still need to learn the PCG Graph, so far the forest template works as a placeholder. Only caveat is optimizing it enough for it be playable and be within project size limits; The terrain meshes are already so expensive. Maybe in the future the download size can be doubled, or at least extended just a bit, for now it's just doing as much as I can to be within those limits. The Moon Tech Art is also being put together in UE5, so once that's ready I can migrate it over to UEFN and use it in my moon projects. It also means I can make renders and use tools that aren't available in UEFN. One of these days I'll continue to work on the GDD and R&D gameplay. There is a lot to cover on the Apollo 17 mission, and implementing that is more of a challenge than I thought. On the other hand, the Moon Base project would require some modern research, but this project offers more creativity as future Artemis missions will take multiple years and missions to build a base, so there's no "historical moments" to implement just yet. At some point I would like to return to my Mars project, the Tech Art on that is semi-complete, but is dated in comparison. Thinking of a rover simulator game or maybe something similar to the moon base one, a Mars Base. Perhaps down the road we'll be able to make full on procedural open world games, it would be interesting to do one for a space related project.

sounds very vaguely like Neil deGrasse Tyson 🤔

UDK (UE3) UI/UX was certainly something back then and kind of had an Unreal theme going (which i like), but is difficult to work with. But it had me wondering, what if UE6 Editor UI was just Fortnite's Rift UI. I mean TBF if Unreal is being vibe coded now, I won't be surprised if the UI/UX looked like every modern AI designed website out there. Glad that we have the new QoL changes with UE5, as I wasn't a big fan of UE4's UI, and I wonder what future versions of Unreal would look like, seeing how Epic is leaning more into that design with their websites and EGL.

Something tells me that Epic is attempting to weed out developers that wont adopt AI. And this Jam was clearly made on a whim, (my guess is) so they can put it on a pedestal later, and say, hey check out what AI can do for devs. Regardless, their ecosystem is still years into beta, and is still struggling with the same issues from 2021. Even if you could make a polished game with AI, the platform wont necessarily help you take off with it, and you can guarantee epic will still be as incompetent as ever about it.
Replying to @FNCreate
Epic Games in 2026: >Does the BARE MINIMUM to support small creators for years, and does nothing about garbage and theft in their ecosystem >Announces that they’re instead giving money to people who use AI & ONLY people who use AI Absolutely revolting. What a spit in the face.

I used a similar workflow for the Apollo Moon project, this is the terrain of the Apollo 17 landing site; Taurus-Littrow valley. I plan on making this a much more "open world" experience. It's fun flying an octane around across the valley. #UEFN #Moon
Here's a little dev update on my moon projects that I'm developing; this particular one is based on future #Artemis missions. This is a portion of the Lunar south pole in #UEFN. It uses real lunar terrain data from a LOLA Digital Elevation Model (LDEM), and through a python script, that data is translated into usable accurate game ready asset. My previous methods (in Blender) weren't going to get me far. Development on this project has been postponed for months now, and there wasn't a tool out there that had what I needed. So in order to use scientific data for the specific game assets I needed, I compromised and resorted to making a python script, by means of which I'm not too proud of. That being said, I'm pleased with the results I've got here. This project is a big aspiration, and I envisage good things to come out of it. With the circumstances as of late, I've been optimistically wary, and practicing some form of personal diplomacy. It's difficult for me to gauge a substantial future with all of this noise & coercion by AI Technocrats and so on. I prefer to pace myself and continue to learn from the contents of a life that I'm still experiencing. With the nature of the world, some aspects are just too wishful and require you to decide what happens next. A topic like this is something I can go one more about, and continue to question, but I want people to understand that you need to have some literacy and continuously question why & where are we going. To quote The Yellow Wallpaper Zine by Kane Parsons, "We are, as a species, parsing wallpaper at an extraordinary scale."

I get the competition culture, but when it comes to the novelty of AI, it comes off as performative and makes the person conceited, in way where I wonder if there is a genuine malicious cult that parasitizes AI onto people in the incentive of doing good & progress.

So called optimizing. I got some plans for the Apollo Moon project, and a part of it is optimizing some of the assets. Because of how mesh LODs and collisions work, I have to RnD a workflow for large scale assets within UEFN limitations, like segmenting a terrain mesh (that's scaled up to 60 km²) into 64 pieces so that LOD0 is kept on lower settings & platforms. We'll see where this goes once implemented into the project.

Epic Games has internally delayed the release of a shooter game they’ve been developing featuring Star Wars & Marvel characters. • Developers on the game have now been told to only use AI to write the code — “No more hand-written code” • All art for the game would be “generated with full AI workflows” (Source: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…)

We have a huge pivot underway here at Epic, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration. The aim isn't to do the same stuff with fewer people, but to enable everyone here to build MORE and BETTER stuff, and to bring the benefits to all teams using Unreal.
