'There has to be accountability at all levels'. Absolutely @sbaroncohen Desperately sad and avoidable loss of life.
“At the heart of all of this was a man who was diagnosed in childhood with disabilities including autism, language delay & learning differences… He needed safeguarding, support & reasonable adjustments” A vital interview with @sbaroncohen on his friend Jason Arday. #autism

In 2014 we published the first large-scale study of suicidality in autism, subsequently widely replicated, revealing that 1 in 4 autistic people have planned or attempted suicide. That’s why I’m very concerned about the impact of the media coverage on Professor Jason Arday who is autistic. He has been accused of plagiarism and he was cleared of any academic misconduct following a rigorous investigation by Liverpool John Moores University. And yet he continues to be systematically discredited over every detail of his life, daily. We should of course always investigate plagiarism to protect academic standards. However, I cannot stand by and watch when an autistic man is on the ground and the kicking continues. This is relentless bullying of a vulnerable autistic man and raises safe-guarding issues. It’s time to stop.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Despite university clearance, Arday's PhD thesis contains dozens of near-verbatim unattributed passages from prior works, and a journal corrected his paper for missing citations to adapted text including participant quotes. retractionwatch.com/2026/07/27/cam… mdpi.com/2076-0760/12/1…

Should any school that receives public funding be free to invoke “autonomy” when deciding which local children (on the basis of their diagnosis or disability) it will or will not include? A question posed by @NeilKenny0 of @DCU_IoE in @irishexaminer Read: launch.dcu.ie/4p6VLBy

We are pleased to announce the publication of this Scoping Document on the Inclusion of Disabled Children and Young People in Participation in Decision-Making. The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY), Hub na nÓg and the National Disability Authority (NDA) formed a partnership to produce resources for policy-makers and those who facilitate the participation of disabled children and young people in decision-making, with a particular focus on those who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The views of children and disabled persons organisations were included in the creation of this scoping document via consultations with children and the input of a Disability Working Group. The aim of this scoping document is to provide advice on approaching participative processes and initiatives. The scoping document has been prepared by researchers from the School of Inclusive and Special Education, Institute of Education, Dublin City University. This document is informed by the Literature Review on the Inclusion of Disabled Children and Young People in Participation in Decision-Making published earlier this year and will provide the basis of the development of further resources by Hub na nÓg. The Scoping Document is available to read in our Library here: hubnanog.ie/scoping-document… @dcediy @NDAIreland @dcu_incl_spe
