I go camping in the desert for a week, only come back to find #Mintwit has collapsed commodities.
What have you all done? You were supposed to have been at it. 🫠
Its perhaps a little bit utopian, but here is my general (retail) investment strategy:
I am metals focused. I do not hold a diversified portfolio, b/c I do not want to dilute performance with average stocks I probably do not understand.
This is therefore, obviously, a higher risk strategy.
I am bullish PM & base metals over the next 10-15 yrs, which is my current expected timeframe; while its exciting to see metal price action the last 18 months, I have lived & worked a brutal 30years of painful market downturns with a few, short-lived upturns. So this "dampens" all my investment decisions which therefore have to be into Co's I believe could survive any downturn or crash. I prefer to avoid day/week/month trading on trends, but admit I have have been trapped by this a couple of times. That aside I have been most successful holding a stock over a few years rather than weeks/months sometimes through -40% downturns. Good businesses recover from these, bad ones do not.
With this in mind I look for solid Co's which still show cash flow when modeling -35% metal prices. AIC & AISC per unit metal produced is important to me. I avoid Co's that have royalties & streams on the assets as much as possible b/c this REALLY RUINS Co. ECONOMICS & retail value & often steals the security of the assets from the SH's too.
Then- KISS- Keep it simple stupid:
Simple, relatively easy to mine & process --> Must, surely, therefore make cash easily.
If the team is good & the AIC is low & there is CF or near term CF & there is a clear path out of any debt, then I look deeper into the asset and try to decide what the resource or future expanded throughput might look like.
On the basis of the above I will then consider buying a stock.
$MARI.TO & $RIO.TO both potentially meet the above requirements, but are on development phase of the L curve, therefore should have a better delta over & above another Co. operating at steady state which normally are at full value and provide DIV's as a mans to dropping my acquisition cost. But they also have to have no community issues (fatal flaws) and no government permitting dramas (fatal flaws).
I will v. likely not exit at 1st production & hold these stocks LT through commissioning into steady state ops to enjoy the CF, unless they start doing more acquisitions. Then I will usually look for a time to sell.
When do I sell? When I am frustrated by the lack of SP performance against whatever applicable metal price.
I average down a little in big downturns if I have the time & opportunity. I average up in big upturns if I have time.
I don't check in on my stocks daily, b/c I have a pretty demanding day job & I am not interested in short term delta.
Otherwise I usually sell when I need cash or want to rotate into a fresh story. But my aim is to HODL long term as a hedge to FIAT and will sell out probably 50% in the next 10-15 yrs if things go well in that period.
My dream stock is one like $CMCL which -if I hold long enough- should pay me a decent % of my acquisition cost from dividends. I view it as a store of value for me rather than an investment to make money on, until I think it is not this.
I try to "make real money" by operating (my own) mining assets in the private space.
Good question @lachl11733, thank you. 🙂
And just like that we are back to normal levels. Again.😁
$FM.TO trading halted in selling frenzy this morning on the news that 3 ministers sent a report recommending closing the mine permanently or reneging.
I think this is a buying opportunity given the Co. is doing very well w/out Panama (worst case), and this is simply a government tactic to negotiate a better royalty on the project.
Nat. Bank still have a $50 tgt, so.....

For open pit haul roads in general, 10% is the maximum safe sustained grade. For particular conditions found at larger operations, the grade has often been determined at 8%. It is usually safe to exceed the maximum sustained grade over a short distance, but not good practice from an operating & maintenance perspective.
Open stoping rule of thumb: When open stope mining, an increase in the mucking rate reduces dilution, since hanging wall sloughing is time dependent.
1/2) I have been asked what I am currently holding, full disclosure below.
@BeardedIslander @FoamOnTheRunway
Nice touch with the colours.🙂
@jmillette77 asked me to rate this blast based on others I have done in the past.
Truth is it's a first blast on the surface, through a mixd of subsoils, fractured rock and boulders, so it will always be imperfect with blown out shots etc. Need to get down a couple of benches into more consistent material characteristics before one can get a better idea on blasting performance. @AndrewC63157600
We are seeing reduced service delivery from many of our suppliers. Sometime no delivery at all after paying for something.
Even big companies like Metso dont come back to us with even quotes for months.
I dont think its just us. Since the pandemic things have just not been the same.
This is going to mean more and more production tgts missed in the industry, and ultimately additional squeeze on metal production in general.
Resolute Mining (ASX, LON: RSG) has cut 2026 production guidance for its Syama gold mine in Mali by about a quarter as supply disruptions and mining constraints restrict access to higher-grade ore.
The West Africa-focused producer now expects Syama to produce 150,000 to 160,000 ounces of gold this year at all-in sustaining costs (AISC) of $2,300 to $2,400 per oz., compared with previous guidance of 195,000 to 210,000 oz. at $1,950 to $2,150 per oz. mining.com/mali-challenges-f…
This is what a shaft sinking cactus grab looks like. It's used to clean the shaft bottom and loads the kibble (bucket) in the background. Probably one of the most hazardous pieces of mining equipment ever made, but also very effective doing what it does.
My public stock port. now consists of 7 stocks,
24% in copper,
19% silver,
49% gold &
the balance in cash.
Took a new position today in $MARI.TO @ 8.99
It's quite expensive as was $RIO.TO when I bot @ 1.00 in Feb-Jun last year, but look at it now.
You get the picture.
This is a low-risk development Cu story that has done really well for a lot of resource speculative SH's already. I like advanced development stories at or near the dip in the Lassonde curve.
Like RIO2, it has a roadmap for expansion after the initial capital burn & the construction period is relatively short compared to most mining projects.
Its also got a seriously large block of seriously prospective mineral concessions adjacent to the project.
