Iran has not attacked another nation in the Middle East in over 200 years. Israel has attacked every nation in the Middle East uninterrupted for the past 80 years. Yet mainstream media has convinced you that it’s Iran 🇮🇷 Are you dumb?

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

In 1952, an English teacher named Cecil Dormand secretly paid for a dirt-poor 11-year-old to take a drama course. He never told him and the boy didn’t find out until decades later. By then, he was a knight, that little boy’s name was Patrick Stewart. He was born into a poor family in Mirfield, a small mill town in Yorkshire and his father came home from World War II a violent man, and he was violent toward Patrick’s mother. Young Patrick learned exactly when to step between his father’s fist and his mother. An English teacher put a copy of Shakespeare in his hand and told him to get up and perform. He never stopped and left school at 15. By 19 he was completely bald... most agencies told him he'd never make it because of that. In 1987, the LA Times called him an “unknown British Shakespearean actor” when he was cast as Captain Picard. Then he became one of the most famous faces on Earth. You’ve probably heard that part. Here’s the part you haven’t: He spent decades as a patron of Refuge, sheltering women and children from domestic violence. But he never stopped trying to understand his father. He dug up a 1940 newspaper clipping that said his dad had come home with severe shell shock. He went to France and walked the ground where his father’s unit was pinned down under bombing for hours. He learned his father had PTSD, and nobody ever helped him. So Patrick became an ambassador for Combat Stress, a charity that helps veterans. In 2013, a young woman at a Texas convention told him she was a survivor of domestic violence. He asked, “My dear, are you okay?” Then he hopped off the stage, held her, and told her: “You never have to go through that again, you’re safe now.” At Dragon Con, a Make-A-Wish girl dressed as Spock came to meet him. 2,000 people were waiting for him to speak... he sat down and talked with her for 15 minutes, making all of them wait. He told her that since they were friends now, whenever she saw him on screen she could wave and say, “Hello Patrick.” After 9/11, he felt helpless, so he brought his one-man A Christmas Carol back to Broadway for a full week of charity shows. He played every character himself and donated every cent. In 2019 he did it again, and every dollar went to feeding hungry New Yorkers. In 2017, he fostered a pit bull named Ginger, who had been rescued from a dogfighting ring. She was his first dog in more than 50 years. He couldn’t bring her home to England, so he found her a family. Then he kept fostering more. When he said he was done with Star Trek so many people told him the show had gotten them through the hardest times of their lives. So he wanted to see if Picard could do it one more time. Rest in Peace, Sir Patrick 🖖

This whole thread is horrifying.
Meet Israel's new Knesset members🧵 Moshe Feiglin: "As Hitler said, ‘I cannot live if one Jew is left.’ We can’t live here if one ‘Islamo-Nazi’ remains in Gaza" "Every child, every baby in Gaza is an enemy"

Underwhelmed yet again. And sorry for being negative but tell me what other sports would re-hire a sacked HC who consistently underperforms at major tournaments. Planned to go to Sydney next year for WC but I genuinely don't know if I can do that now #Roses

🥱🥱Massively underwhelmed, but I expected nothing less. Nothing says lack of ambition than appointing a coach that has already shown she's not up to the job. This was literally just a ghost ad / paper process - they already knew who they wanted, but legally they had to advertise

"I don't know what the fuss is about. Zionism is of course racist. .... Zionists ... decided to establish their self-determination on the territory of another people. .... There's no way that the state of Israel could have been established without the expulsion of the people already living in the territory ... Why is this so difficult to understand?" The indomitable Ghada Karmi, driven from Jerusalem as a child, cuts through the crap at this morning's Greens4Palestine press conference. /1

You can buy books from Ian Brady, Charles Bronson, and the Kray twins in the UK, but you can't buy books from Sally Rooney because she opposes Israel's genocide. She should've done something respectable like serial killing and her books would be fine.

6% of the UK population are Muslim, and 4% of UK MPs are Muslim. Stop all this bullshit that they are somehow taking over and controlling the country. It's all just far right propaganda. I'd rather see a decent Muslim with honest values who serves their community as an MP, than the utter scumbag, criminal, wife beating grifters who represent the far right.

the weird thing about reading so much as a child and gaining a huge vocabulary from that is I can't define a lot of words i use, i just…know that they would fit correctly in a specific sentence. does anyone else experience that 😭?

so Badenoch says people should not come to UK and "recreate the place they came from" ........wow she might like to take a look at the English "enclaves" around the world and in particular the yob drinking culture that worries many locals in areas of low-cost airline holidays

The fact the British media is angrier about a "Zionism is racism" motion than about Zionists committing genocide speaks volumes about the British media

What in the name of corporate bullshit is this?! How in any universe does dropping "Manchester" from the name "strengthen the relationship between the two organisations?! It took dedicated people nearly 20 years to build this name this brand, this identity, & this culture.

I love going watching Thunder, & the girls are all lovely, but if the fixtures come out and there's fewer games in Manchester, I'll be asking for a refund. I'd sooner use my holidays days from work to go watch @OldhamNetball rather than a club whose only identity is their sponsor

Update: Having spoken to Karen, I've been reassured the club are not leaving Manchester. Apart from another double-header in Liverpool like this year, all the 2027 games are in Manc. I'm still no wiser why "Manchester" got dropped other than for "commercial reasons" 🤷🏽‍♀️🙈🙊🙉🤷🏽‍♀️
