NVS-03 is set for launch tomorrow night at 23:51 IST on GSLV-F18.
NavIC currently has only three satellites providing positioning services one short of the minimum for standalone capability. This satellite carries an indigenous atomic clock and adds the L1 signal. ISRO’s consistent work on the constellation, especially after the NVS-02 setback, makes this an important step.
Orbit raising and commissioning will determine how quickly it contributes.
Meet NVS-03 - the third satellite of the second-generation NVS series, intended to augment the NavIC constellation and support continuity of navigation services.
Launch: 30th October 2026, 23:51 hours IST
Watch live: 30th October 2026, 23:20 hours IST onwards

From Akash to Lasers: How India Could Build Its Next Layer of Air Defence.
1/9
Imagine an incoming aerial threat facing two very different defenders: One fires a missile. The other directs concentrated energy at the target, at the speed of light. India's future air-defence architecture could combine both.
Here’s why DRDO's laser-weapons programme matters. 🧵👇
@DRDO_India #DRDO #Akash #LaserWeapons #DEW #AirDefence #IndianDefence #MakeInIndia #AtmanirbharBharat #SahastraShakti
8/9
The future of air defence depends on more than individual weapons. It requires sensors, tracking, command-and-control, threat identification and multiple response options working together. If developed and integrated successfully, lasers could help conserve conventional interceptors for engagements where they are the better choice.
The objective: a more resilient defence, not a single wonder weapon.
9/9
Akash brings kinetic interception. Directed-energy weapons offer a different way to engage selected aerial threats. Combining capabilities could eventually give India more flexibility against evolving attacks, but development, testing, integration and deployment remain crucial steps.
The future of air defence may not belong to lasers or missiles alone. It may belong to the system that knows when to use each.

- The Pentagon's inspector general declined a bipartisan request from nine lawmakers to investigate the Starlink and Starshield disruptions affecting Ukraine. Putin separately called Elon Musk a "genius" and said Russia is in contact with him; Russia's own Rassvet network has just over 30 satellites against nearly 10,000 operated by SpaceX.
- Vice President JD Vance has written to Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei in an attempt to restart talks, reportedly at Trump's direction.

Summary of what's happening in World right now #WW3 possibly? | October 28.
- Israel's election has produced no clear winner. With about 85% of ballots counted, the Likud-led bloc stood at 53 seats, Gadi Eisenkot's bloc at 48, and Arab parties at 19 up from 10 in the outgoing Knesset. A majority requires 61. Turnout was 77.7%, the highest since 1999.
- Netanyahu did not concede, telling Likud headquarters the right bloc holds "a decisive majority" among the Zionist public and calling any coalition relying on Arab parties "a disgrace and a shame." Eisenkot said the public voted against the incumbent and that "the old era is over." Israeli bonds and the shekel fell on the deadlock.
- Neither bloc can reach 61 without the Arab parties, and both have previously ruled that out. The president will nominate a prime minister, who then has up to 42 days to form a government. The final tally is expected Friday, with official results due November 4.
- The Wall Street Journal reports the US has told several Gulf states to prepare for a short, intense military offensive against Iran after the midterms, with a Patriot battery moved from Texas and troops shifted away from exposed bases. The White House declined to comment on "sensitive military plans that may or may not exist."
- President Pezeshkian met Putin in Moscow, where both called for wider bilateral cooperation. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei said Iran and the "resistance front" must safeguard their rights.
- Airstrikes hit the Houthi-held port of Mocha in Yemen's Taiz province on Wednesday. No casualties were immediately reported. Houthi-run al-Masirah TV blamed Saudi forces.

BRITAIN TARGETS 3% OF GDP FOR DEFENCE BY 2030
The UK government is aiming to raise defence spending to 3% of GDP by 2030, with a pathway towards NATO’s 3.5% target by 2035.
But the funding plan faces scrutiny. The detailed roadmap is due at next year’s Spending Review, raising questions about how quickly Britain can expand military capabilities while managing pressure on public finances.

India Raises Red Flags Over US F-16 Support for Pakistan
India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged Washington to reconsider the risks associated with F-16 sustainment support for Pakistan during talks with US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth on the sidelines of ADMM-Plus in the Philippines.
The concern goes beyond aircraft maintenance: sensitive defence technology and weapons-related know-how could potentially reach third countries. The discussions also covered regional security and progress under the India-US Defence Framework.

Six barrels. One big challenge: ammunition.
The M134 Minigun uses an electric motor to rotate six barrels, cycling through loading, firing and extraction. This allows sustained fire while distributing heat across multiple barrels.
But ammunition consumption is staggering: at 3,000 rounds per minute, it fires 50 rounds per second. A 4,000-round supply would last roughly 80 seconds of continuous fire.
The engineering is impressive. The logistics are the real challenge.

INDO-PACIFIC ALERT: 53 Chinese Vessels Across Regional Waters
Taiwan reports 53 Chinese vessels, including 34 navy warships and the aircraft carrier Liaoning, operating across waters near Taiwan, southern Japan and the Philippines.
Such deployments heighten regional tensions and raise questions about freedom of navigation, maritime security and compliance with international law, including UNCLOS. Any legal violation depends on the vessels’ locations and conduct.

SAUDI ARABIA LOOKS TO CHINA FOR MISSILE CAPABILITIES
Saudi Arabia is expanding its al-Duwadimi ballistic missile facility, with satellite imagery suggesting preparations for larger solid-fuel missiles with greater range or payload capacity.
Reports also suggest Riyadh may have used a Chinese-designed DF-15 in Yemen. The shift could strengthen Saudi strike autonomy while adding pressure to an already volatile regional arms race.
China provides technology; the US remains Riyadh’s principal security partner.
