Darlene Swain checked her 15-year-old's location, then went to sleep. The next morning, her birthday, she woke to terrible news. Instead of taking him to church, she'd be planning his funeral. Brody was one of 34 to die since FHP loosened its chase policy.

I did not do the Jeffrey Epstein investigation alone. I had the support of @MiamiHerald —it’s then executive editor, Mindy Marques; and these two incredible journalists, investigations editor Casey Frank and visual journalist Emily Michot. Thank you to all the courageous victims who shared their stories with me, and to those on the Pulitzer Board who made this honor of a lifetime happen. #pulitzerprizes

The essential FIU Cuba poll is out. Lots to say on the Cuba front, but for the midterm watchers: no sea-change among Cubans in Miami-Dade. There is some Trump discontent & signs the vote could return to '20 levels, but party ID is stable since '24.

Oh good. The federal agents who showed up at a Florida early voting site were apparently hoping to vote, except THEY WEREN'T REGISTERED TO VOTE IN THAT COUNTY AND DIDN'T REALIZE THEY COULDN'T VOTE THERE.
Federal agents who don't know how voting works. Terrific.

Another Florida elected official says she recently received threats of harm to herself and staff.
Last week, my district office received repeated threatening voicemails containing racial slurs and an explicit threat to slit my throat, causing serious concern for my safety and the safety of my family and staff.
Luke Schlauder, the individual accused of making these threats, appeared in court in West Palm Beach facing two felony charges:
• F.S. 836.10(2)(a) – Written or Electronic Threat to Kill or Cause Bodily Injury – No Bond
• F.S. 934.215 – Use of a Two-Way Communication Device to Facilitate a Felony – Bond Set at $250,000
The judge also imposed strict conditions, including a no-contact order covering me, my office, and my staff. The court ordered that he be supervised by an adult 24 hours a day, remain confined to a family residence, and wear an electronic ankle monitor. He will remain in Palm Beach County custody until the conditions of the court’s order are fulfilled.
An @fdlepio Special Agent also appeared in court in support of my office, underscoring the seriousness of these threats and the agency’s commitment to protecting our safety.
I am deeply grateful to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (@FDLEpio), @BocaPolice, and the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office (@StateAttorney15) for their swift response, professionalism, and continued efforts to protect my family, my staff, and me.
I also appreciate the outpouring of support and concern from members of our community for the safety of my team.
I remain committed to serving the people of Florida House District 91 without fear or intimidation!
There is no place in the State of Florida for threats of political violence or attempts to terrorize public officials and their families.
I will not be silenced. We will not be intimidated. And we will not falter.

New: Miami-Dade County Public Schools is down ~16k students this October compared to last year.
Unlike previous counts, this one (the official October "FTE" count) will hit the district's pocketbook. It also marks the first YoY loss for charter schools.
