Farmers work tirelessly to feed our country, often on razor-thin margins, driven by pride in their land and generations of family tradition. The Government keeps piling on the costs: how can this be fair to those who put food on our tables?

Great to spend some time with @Fletcher4Mayor this morning to help out with the Anston and Woodsetts by-election! Lots of name recognition for the @Conservatives candidate Mike Hemingway. #VoteConservative #Rotherhamiswonderful 🗳️

The Prime Minister promised ‘hope in every heart’. But what we got, was a hand in every pocket!

I am tired of those who seem determined to apologise for everything in Britain's past, while ignoring the extraordinary contribution this country has made to freedom around the world. In 1807, Britain abolished the slave trade and subsequently deployed the Royal Navy's West Africa Squadron to enforce that decision. British sailors risked, and lost, their lives fighting the slave trade, freeing thousands of people from slavery. We should never forget their courage and sacrifice. Our history is not without its faults, but neither should we forget the enormous contribution Britain has made to freedom, justice and the rule of law. We have much to be proud of, and I make no apology for saying so.
🚨"By today's money we spent tens of billions of pounds to end slavery, we owe NO ONE an apology" Sir Iain Duncan Smith picks apart Andy Burnham giving the Caribbean £40 million in reparations for the slave trade. @MPIainDS | @jkyleofficial

Cllr Paul Swaddle has been through Labour's Budget line by line. More taxes on family homes, more power for the Mayor, and nothing on the £100m cut to Westminster's core funding. Here is what it means for you: twocities.org.uk/labours-bud…

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

The OBR now expects growth of just 1% next year, a third lower than it forecast in March. Labour keeps piling costs onto the firms that hire and invest, then acts surprised when growth stalls 🤷🏼‍♂️
It’s no surprise John Healey’s do-nothing Budget has failed to calm business fears. He has failed to meet the moment. 👇 We desperately need a government that backs business. Cut red tape, cut the cost of hiring and cut taxes. We Conservatives will.

Budget: Labour promised change: 📈 Record tax: 37.9% of GDP next year, rising to 38.6%
📈 Higher debt/borrowing every year of the forecast
📈 £57.7bn more on working age welfare
📉 No funding for 3% on defence John Healey said < 3% makes us less safe. Where is the money?

Is that it? John Healey had a big job to do cleaning up Labour’s mess. This Budget fails to do it. Britain is overspent, overborrowed and overtaxed. This Budget does not come close to meeting the moment. My full response👇

I wonder if the coordinated waving of order papers by Labour MPs after the most boring budget speech I’ve sat through looked as daft on the TV as it did in the chamber.

If John Healey thinks his new high street bank tax hike is only going to hit jobs in London, he is wrong. Financial services employ 2.48million people across the country, most of them (TWO THIRDS) work outside London.
