In stretched times, scrutiny of our NHS is as important as ever. @YvetteCooperMP has made the right decision to reverse Labour’s plans to axe @HealthwatchE Thank you to everyone, cross-party, who campaigned to keep Healthwatch, and thank you @HWNewcastle theguardian.com/society/2026…

If Chancellor includes tax revenues from not yet approved #Rosebank oil field to fund his budget it’s environmentally ruinous & morally obscene. As the planet burns, claiming emissions won’t “count” because the oil is burned overseas is reckless & cynical theguardian.com/environment/…

A Budget to tax extreme wealth and profits and make the UK affordable. That is what a Green Chancellor would do.

Andy Burnham is asked about Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields. He says "Use of our resources can support and accelerate a clean energy future" We are truly down the rabbit hole with this utter nonsense. Invest in renewables, insulate homes & say no to fossil fuels.

I'm very happy to see this. @BBC6Music put on a fantastic weekend on Tyneside when they were here in 2015. They worked with local venues, including Byker's own @thecumby, and helped showcase the best of our music and cultural life. Welcome back! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cm62…

Labour spinning that tomorrow’s budget will be “low key”. It should be a “big test” Burnham promised the end of forty years of neoliberalism. Surely that means, at least, a plan for reducing inequality & strengthening public services. Some thoughts on protecting hospitality 👇
After hearing from Newcastle cultural and hospitality businesses through representation from The Core - Newcastle Hospitality Association, @NCLGreenParty has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer @JohnHealey_MP ahead of the budget this week.

We are calling on Newcastle MPs to work cross-party to stand up for Newcastle’s businesses, and for the government to act to protect the small, independent businesses who help keep wealth local and add so much to our cultural life here in Newcastle.

My colleague @JamieDriscollNE on why Labour are still getting it wrong. This is important. We need policies that get bills down, and we can do so whilst reducing our impact on the planet. @TheGreenParty are the only party talking truth to power on this.
The government approved the Jackdaw gas field today. It's sold at the world price, so won't make us secure. Retrofit and renewables would create more jobs and lower bills. We can afford this. I'll explain how in Alnwick, Thu 29 Oct. All welcome. eventbrite.co.uk/e/hostage-n…

More litter bins for communities like Byker, Walker and Elswick. Faster repairs and better homes for council tenants. A greener, fairer Newcastle, with more council housing, thriving local businesses, better transport and more green space. All discussed at Cabinet yesterday.

Regeneration is about more than attracting investment. It’s about improving lives in the communities we already call home. There’s more to do on safer streets, jobs, training, inequality and household bills. But working together gives us the best chance of making progress.

Green politics isn’t about claiming to have all the answers. It’s about clear values, listening, learning and working with others. We won’t always agree, but we can disagree respectfully and celebrate shared progress. That’s what bringing Green values into the room means to me

Big up to @MattWilliamsNGP for challenging the troubling MYTHS doing the rounds on asylum seekers being prioritised for council housing. Misinformation like this is making it harder to build consent for housebuilding, and is dividing communities. Greens will always speak up!

It was a joy to join @KarbonHomes for this launch last week! I have so much to say on the community groups, community interest companies, artists and bakeries bringing new life to the Byker Wall estate. This is the start of an exciting new chapter for Byker. More to come!
