1/ After three years processing 19 million planning applications and 120 terabytes of documents, @edoardo_badii, @AmritaKulka and I are releasing the first findings from our Housing Pipeline dataset.
Fewer distinct proposed homes. A much stronger rebound in 2025. 🧵
8/ Next, we’ll examine where developments get stuck, how proposals change—and how often planning permissions actually become homes.
If we want to fix the housing pipeline, we need to be able to measure it.

New article from myself & Johannes Brinkmann out in The Conversation on petrol price gouging (or lack thereof)

@cage_warwick policy note from myself and Johannes Brinkmann on this claim with some analysis from around the Russian Invasion of Ukrain. warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/econom…
The main points:
7. There is substantial heterogeneity in this asymmetry. Some stations exhibit close to no asymmetry, while others have up to 5 times the size of the average.
8. The main takeaway - petrol retailers can make "excess profits". But it doesn't happen during oil price spikes when everyone is looking. Full piece here: warwick.ac.uk/fac/soc/econom…
