I've been working on a #projecthailmary Pacific Rim AU, ch. 1 is officially up! : D link in comments, if you want to go check it out <3
One last food for thought moment and I'll go back to shutting up.
If I child proudly shows you a drawing they've made, do you think that they are selfish for doing so? Or is perhaps HUMAN NATURE THAT DOESN'T SIMPLY GO AWAY ONCE ONE GROWS to search validation with art?
You know, I've been sitting on these thoughts for a while because there was always this vibe of "writer, you're not allowed to complain or you are selfissshhh" skulking about but I'm fucking done, so here we go:
When that happens don't come fucking crying to any of us. We've been telling you. We've warned you that literally all you need is the decency to give back a modicum of feedback, something that takes you, like, a minute.
this fucking convo I just had, man
Replying to @hellomelloanne
Wishing to NOT throw your hard work into a void of nothingness and having a natural human desire for connection and to know you art is being appreciated by others is capitalist creep, now, I guess. Sure, Jan.
At this point I'm highkey wondering what percentage of the people who act like writers/artist are the progeny of satan for expressing a desire for feedback are writers/artist themselves
And not to get "source: I made it up" on y'all but I have the suspicion that it's VERY SMALL
BUD YOU'RE NOT TELLING ME THAT FANDOM *ISN'T* BASED ON COMMUNITY INTERACTION AND CALLING IT CAPITALIST THINKING RIGHT NOW ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I'm begging the "If you don't want people to do whatever the fuck they want with YOUR work then don't post it in a public place " crowd to explain to me what they expect the natural consequences of defending and upholding this position might be. I'll wait.
I'm seeing SO MANY ppl going "IT'S A PUBLIC ARCHIVE THERE'S A DOWNLOAD BUTTON YOU'RE SELFISH" at fic writers expressing uneasiness at all the 'here's my google drive of all the ff I saved' threads that are popping out like. You people aren't for real.
I'd love to be proven wrong on this. I really, really do. I'd love nothing more than to stand corrected and see a renewed appreciation for fic writers, who are the real backbone of any fandom, to come pouring in once ao3 is back up. But I'm not exactly holding my breath on that.
