Soft as hell 🧻
Pool report with referee Bill Vinovich on what led to Mike Vrabel’s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Would love that story arc.
Listen I’m genuinely interested in trading to bring Kayshon Boutte back. Texans are 0-4. Boutte knows your offense. You desperately need an outside receiver this week. It all lines up. 2028 7th rounder. Get it done.

Drake Maye just had 3 TD’s, no pickable passes, and a Game winning drive against Josh Allen in Buffalo. No Gonzalez. No Barmore. No Diggs. No AJ Brown. Shut up forever, haters.

Btw if people don’t like Boston sports radio or sensationalist talking points, we live in an era where there is a ton of material you can consume at 0 cost. It’s almost like concierge sports content, tailored to your demands. So if you’re listening to Boston Sports talk radio, that is YOUR choice. They’re trying to make you angry on purpose because anger increases engagement. The same as on X. The algorithm knows what makes you upset and puts it in front of your face. If you truly hated it, you would turn it off, but more likely some of the people complaining just love the drama.

Welp. The Patriots got dog walked. Was Drake bad? Yes. Is he making horrendous decisions? Also yes. Do I think he needs to be benched, or that he suddenly sucks now? No, you fucking morons. Drake Maye was terrible Sunday. He lost the ball in a clean pocket. He threw an interception in the red zone that wiped out a chance to change the game before halftime. Then he threw another one directly to a Jaguar that turned a 14-3 game into a 35-6 funeral. That is not acceptable quarterback play. Not from a guy with his talent. Not from the guy this whole operation is supposed to be built around. Drake is not physically broken. He had clean pockets and chances. He is making horrendous decisions with the football. He is forcing throws that are not there. He is trying to manufacture the big answer instead of taking the easy one. That is a mental problem, and it has to be the priority this week. Drake needs a clean game in Buffalo. And Josh McDaniels is not getting off clean here either. Drake has to stop making stupid decisions. But if your quarterback is struggling to see the field and forcing balls into coverage, your job is to make his life embarrassingly easy for a while. Get him moving. Call quick answers. Use motion. Find completions that do not require him to play hero ball on third-and-long. Instead, this offense keeps putting the responsibility back on the quarterback it is supposedly trying to develop. That is not a plan. That is hoping Drake bails you out. But this is bigger than Josh McDaniels. What the hell has this team done around Drake? Last year, the Patriots gave Maye a group he could lean on: Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins, and Kayshon Boutte. It was not the greatest receiver room in football, but there was familiarity and trust. Then they moved on from Diggs. They traded Boutte. A.J. Brown was supposed to be the big upgrade, but he is hurt. Romeo Doubs has been decent. Decent does not equal established chemistry with your quarterback three weeks into a season. That does not excuse Maye throwing the ball to the other team. It does mean the margin for error has gotten smaller at the exact moment he needs more support. I do not know exactly where the line is between Mike Vrabel and Eliot Wolf. But somebody needs to answer for building chemistry around its young quarterback, then pulling pieces out before the replacement plan was actually on the field. You let Diggs walk. You trade Boutte for next to nothing. You were apparently willing to make Mack Hollins expendable too. Then Brown gets hurt and Maye is trying to find continuity with a group that barely had time to build it. That is dogshit roster construction. The run game is part of it too. The numbers are not horrific, but they are not reliable enough to help. Stevenson and Henderson have each popped an explosive run, but neither has given the offense a steady answer. They have combined for 55 carries in three games. That is not enough volume or production to keep Drake out of obvious passing situations. So now the quarterback is pressing, the top target is hurt, the run game cannot carry a drive, and the depth gets exposed the second injuries hit. A couple positives: Christian Gonzalez still looked like Christian Gonzalez. Will Campbell was not the reason this offense fell apart. Gabe Jacas is worth getting on the field more. That is about where the positives end. The defense has depth issues. The offense has depth issues. The quarterback is making brutal decisions. Now they are 1-2 and heading into Buffalo against a 3-0 Bills team. Drake has to own Sunday. He was awful. But the people building this roster need to own the bigger picture too. They have asked a young quarterback to carry too much, then taken away people who made that job easier. That is not how you build an environment for a quarterback to climb out of a slump.

Insane we are in a two possession game, and it feels like we are down 1000.
