Many of the educational challenges facing our countries are shared. It only makes sense that we work together with all stakeholders in our societies to find innovative and practical solutions. At the opening of the OAS Ministerial Meeting on Education in Quito, I called for stronger hemispheric cooperation to tackle common challenges, share knowledge and best practices, and help our education systems adapt to a rapidly changing world. No country needs to face these challenges alone. This is the added value of the OAS: bringing our countries together to turn shared priorities into collective action toward greater peace and prosperity for the people of the Americas, especially our youth. Let us continue building a collaborative Inter-American education system where institutions and students learn from one another, benefit from our collective experience, and work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive and become a responsible and productive member of society. I also expressed my deep appreciation to all educators for their commitment, dedication, and invaluable work, often carried out under challenging circumstances. #XIIReunionEducacionOEA #Quito2026 @OAS_official @OAS_Development

OAS Showcases Its Results at the World’s Largest Conference on Shared Water Basins The OAS Americas Water Program participated in the 11th International Waters Conference (IWC 11), organized by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) (@theGEF) in Bali, Indonesia, under the theme “Shared Waters, Transformative Solutions: Enabling Systemic Change.” The conference provided a key platform for exchanging experiences and discussing the challenges of sustainable transboundary water management. During discussion sessions, we presented the results, progress, and lessons learned from regional initiatives, including the GEF/Trifinio, CReW+, and Bermejo projects. Water diplomacy was one of the central themes, highlighting its role in building trust, fostering understanding among countries, and turning shared challenges into opportunities for cooperation. Transboundary water management requires not only technical solutions, but also a commitment to dialogue, institutional coordination, and strategic partnerships. The conference also provided an opportunity to gain insights into the GEF-9 priorities and identify opportunities to guide future cooperation across the region.

El Niño phenomenon is unavoidable—but its consequences are not. While severe droughts are expected across parts of the Americas, heavy flooding will hit others. With the peak anticipated between November and December, the decisions we make today will shape our reality in 2027. The Americas are at a crucial moment to leverage #AI for economic growth, trade, and regional prosperity. AI is transforming our hemisphere, but we must bridge digital divides and asymmetries through collaboration. That is the challenge set forth by OAS Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin at the opening of the 11th Regular Meeting of COMCyT on AI for Prosperity in the Americas. Over the next two days, governments, tech pioneers, and experts will address key challenges in security, governance, and infrastructure to ensure technology drives development across the region. #OASdevelopment
Artificial intelligence alone will not create prosperity. What matters is whether we have the right policies, investments, and partnerships to turn its transformative potential into real opportunities for the people of the Americas. #AI is already reshaping our economies, improving productivity, facilitating trade, and opening new markets for businesses and entrepreneurs. But we must ensure that this technological revolution does not deepen existing inequalities or leave countries behind. Latin America and the Caribbean must become active participants in the AI economy, not merely consumers of technologies developed elsewhere. This requires greater investment in innovation and education, stronger public-private partnerships, deeper regional cooperation, and institutions capable of building trust in the responsible use of AI. At the @OAS_official, we are committed to supporting member states through technical cooperation, capacity building, and dialogue to ensure that AI remains human-driven and delivers tangible benefits to our societies. At the @OAS_development High-Level Policy Dialogue “Artificial Intelligence for Prosperity in the Americas: Advancing Trade, Innovation, and Competitiveness,” I emphasized that national sovereignty and regional cooperation must go hand in hand. By connecting our knowledge, resources, and capabilities, we can ensure that the AI revolution becomes a driver of shared prosperity across our hemisphere.
