🧵 WE KNOW WHAT WE HOLD.
$HBAR. $XLM. $ALGO. $XRP.
Not securities.
Not collectibles.
Digital Commodities.
And the SEC’s March 2026 interpretation gives our community an important regulatory reference point.
Here’s what many people may have overlooked. 👇
The @SECGov and @CFTC published a joint interpretation on March 17, 2026, clarifying the regulatory treatment of crypto assets under U.S. federal securities laws.
One important category:
Digital Commodities.
The SEC describes a digital commodity as a crypto asset whose value derives from the programmatic operation of a functional crypto system, together with supply and demand dynamics.
Rather than from expectations of profits generated by the essential managerial efforts of others.
Look at the examples on page 14.
The SEC explicitly names:
• Hedera (HBAR)
• Stellar (XLM)
• XRP (XRP)
All three are identified as digital commodities.
And then there’s footnote 51.
@Algorand (ALGO) is explicitly identified as a digital commodity, too.
Even without an underlying futures contract on a CFTC-regulated exchange.
The SEC makes clear that such a futures contract is NOT a requirement for digital commodity classification.
Why does this matter?
Because these assets are tied to the functionality of their respective networks.
They serve purposes within the systems they power.
Their value is linked to network utility and supply and demand, not claims on a company’s future profits or assets.
One legal distinction remains important: the classification of an asset does not automatically determine the legal status of every transaction involving it.
But the regulatory direction is significant.
And there’s another important development.
In October 2026, the @StellarOrg, joined @hedera, @AptosLabs, @AvaLabs, @Cardano_CF and @chainlink in a joint letter to the SEC on its proposed Regulation Crypto Assets.
Their message?
Put the 2026 Interpretation’s Digital Commodity classification directly into the rule text.
Make the distinction explicit.
Give it durability.
Reduce regulatory uncertainty.
Because clarity today should become durable rules tomorrow.
And this is exactly the distinction our community should understand.
We know what we hold.
Not a piece of a company.
Not a collectible.
But a native digital asset whose value is connected to the utility and operation of a functional network.
A DIGITAL COMMODITY.
$HBAR. $XLM. $ALGO. $XRP.
Four ecosystems. Four native assets.
And a community that understands the difference.
We are not just holding tokens. We are holding the native assets of networks we believe will become part of tomorrow's financial infrastructure.
Patience. Understand the utility. Know what you hold.
