A lot of rain☔️expected on the 24th possibly continuing into Christmas Day. Bucket loads. Hopefully in doesn't change to snow so Ottawa snow and ice contractors can enjoy Christmas with family! That is the best 🎁 they can hope for!
COVID-19 UPDATE: Snow contractors will begin removing driveway markers over the next week or so. The general consensus is that they will use teams of ONE person per vehicle, provide any PPE that is necessary for the work, & ask that staff limit their activity to the task at hand.
The Snow & Ice Management Association's COVID-19 update for local, provincial (state) and federal governments.
You know Ottawa has had quite a bit of snow recently when the independent snow dumps increased their per-load prices today because the hills are becoming too high. It costs a lot more money to haul the snow up higher snow mountains during heavier winters.
Ottawa snowblowing company was apparently robbed today. Luckily no one was seriously injured. ottawapolice.ca/Modules/News…
Not quite February and yet Ottawa has already received 50% of an average winter's snowfall. The average is usually marked at 223cm and so far we have had over 110cm.
Snow is expected during the day and evening on Saturday extending overnight into Sunday. A minimum of 10cm is expected, with 15-20cm possible. If the amounts are higher we'll do an overnight run on Saturday but if they are lower we'll do a Sunday run so cars can be moved for us.
Freezing rain very possible Saturday late morning into the early afternoon. Salting crews are on stand by for Precision Plus and 10-pack clients.
Really not good news today with another snowblowing company going bankrupt.

Was happy to help answer questions regarding residential snow clearing in Ottawa. Hopefully we cleared up some misconceptions.

Great to have networked with some Ottawa and other Ontario snow professionals at last weeks #SIMASnow annual Symposium. A packed ballroom at one of Snow & Ice Management Association's famous "Snack & Chats".
Wow! What a week of snow and ice! Ottawa snow totals are currently: Nov. 15->present 235.7cm. When factoring in rain/ice pellets at 1mm=1cm then we arrive at: Nov. 15->present = 330.6cm. Holy ❄️!

Over the past 30 days, Ottawa has had 132cm of snow; compare to other 30-day periods:
2008: 135cm
2007: 158cm
1993: 148cm
1971: 192cm
3 times during the past 30 years is not "never". We should *expect* something like this about once per decade.

This week's snow will very likely put Ottawa's snow total over the most commonly used 250cm maximum. This #ctvottawa news piece is quite accurate.

Tonight's snow event in Ottawa is one for the history books because of the extreme cold mixed with a decent snowfall💨❄️ For those south of Ottawa "Winter Storm Harper" could break records for the amount of snow. 90-100cm is possible in areas! Montreal is expected to get 20-30☃️
Well, it appears our fears have been realized. The first salt supplier in Ottawa has released their prices for this autumn.
The rate has gone up 70% over last year 💰😰💰
