DID YOU KNOW?
A school garden can be much more than a place to grow food, it can be a living classroom.
Through hands-on experiences, children can explore how plants grow, understand the importance of soil and food production, and develop a deeper appreciation for caring for their environment.
That’s the idea behind school gardens as part of the Clean Our World (COW) Project — making environmental education practical, engaging and connected to everyday life.
As COW expands to Rivers and Enugu States, more schools will have opportunities to turn learning spaces into places where environmental lessons are not just taught, but seen, explored and experienced. 🌍🌱

A cleaner world starts with what children learn and what they learn to do. 🌍
Through Clean Our World (COW) VI, 140+ teachers have been trained on practical approaches to integrating environmental education and sustainability into everyday classroom learning.
From waste management and conservation to everyday sustainable practices, the training equips educators with the tools to make environmental learning practical, relevant and actionable, helping pupils develop the knowledge and habits to make a difference in their schools, homes and communities.
Because when children learn to care for their environment, they can become part of the change needed to protect it.
Learn it. Live it. Clean Our World. 🌱

Clean Our World project is growing and so is its impact. 🌍
From 144 public primary schools reached across Lagos, Plateau, Delta and Abuja, the Clean Our World (COW) Project is expanding to Rivers and Enugu States, onboarding 60 additional schools.
The expansion is already underway, with teacher capacity strengthening activities completed in both states. Through these trainings, educators are gaining knowledge and practical skills to integrate environmental education into their classrooms and schools.
From 144 to 204 schools, COW VI is taking climate action further, reaching more educators, engaging more learners and inspiring a new generation to make sustainability part of everyday life. 🌱

United in purpose. Stronger together. 🌍
For 81 years, the United Nations has brought nations together to advance peace, dignity, human rights and sustainable development.
The same spirit of collaboration is essential to achieving SDG 4: Quality Education. Ensuring every child has access to inclusive and equitable quality education is a shared responsibility — one that requires partnerships, collective action and a commitment to leaving no learner behind.
At Oando Foundation, we believe that when we work together, we can create greater opportunities for children to learn, grow and thrive.

For the past three years, Oando Foundation, in partnership with Teach For Nigeria (TFN), has supported young Nigerians through the Incubation Hub Program, providing a platform to develop and refine local solutions to pressing social and sustainability challenges.
At the 2026 Incubation Hub Bootcamp, held at the Enterprise Development Center, Pan-Atlantic University, our Head of Foundation, @tonia_uduimoh engaged with the fellows to gain insight into the solutions they are developing, the challenges they are addressing and their experiences throughout the incubation journey.
The fellows are working across diverse areas, including education, clean energy, STEM, waste management, and other community-focused initiatives. Beyond developing their ideas, many are already taking steps to test and implement their solutions, turning insights and lived experiences into practical responses to challenges within their communities.
As Tonia shared in her remarks, many of the solutions to Nigeria’s social development challenges are already being developed by young Nigerians. Partnerships can help create the enabling environment, resources and connections needed to strengthen these solutions, expand their reach and support their journey from ideas to impact.

Education is a critical foundation for sustainable development, and we’re intentionally charting the course.
At the 2026 Enugu Education Summit, themed “Transforming Education for the Future: Leadership, Innovation, Partnership, Financing and Sustainable Reform,” stakeholders convened to discuss pathways to strengthen the State’s education system, alongside launch of the Enugu Education Policy.
Invited to share our innovative sustainable education model, the Foundation showcased its Clean Our World (COW) project, highlighting the importance of integrating climate literacy and practical environmental action into primary education. The engagement culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Government to implement the COW project in select public smart schools across the state, under a co-funding partnership.
We commend Enugu State Government for prioritising education as a key driver of development and look forward to supporting efforts that strengthen learning and equip young people for a more sustainable future.

We asked #HumansofOando one practical question:
What changes when a girl gets the chance to learn?
Their answers collectively revealed something powerful:
A girl's education is more than a classroom experience. It's about the choices it unlocks, the confidence it builds, and the future it makes possible.
Educate a girl, and you do not just change one life. You strengthen a family, uplift a community, and shape a nation's future.
Let us know your response in the comments.

A girl’s right to learn should never come at the cost of her childhood.
Across Nigeria, 7.6 million girls are out of school [UNICEF; 2022], with poverty, location and other circumstances continuing to affect access to basic education.
Keeping girls in school requires more than getting them into the classroom. It means protecting their rights, creating safe and supportive learning environments, and addressing the barriers that can cut their education short.
This International Day of the Girl Child, we join the call to end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights — including their right to learn, grow and have a say in the future they want to build.
At Oando Foundation, we remain committed to advancing opportunities for girls through education and supporting the systems that enable them to stay in school, learn and thrive.
End child marriage. Protect girls’ rights. Invest in girls.
Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

Scaling what works requires partnerships that can take proven solutions further.
Fulfilling its co-funding commitment under LEARNOVATE FLIP II, Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PLSUBEB) has produced 30,000 copies of Early Grade Reading (EGR) teaching and learning materials for distribution across target public primary schools in the state. To strengthen classroom delivery - a key component under the partnership, Oando Foundation also trained 344 teachers on the effective use of EGR materials provided, recognising that teachers are central to translating these resources into meaningful learning outcomes.
Our collective action demonstrates how innovative partnerships can strengthen education delivery by aligning partner resources, building on existing systems and scaling proven approaches to reach more learners.

Teachers are at the heart of every classroom, shaping not only what children learn today, but who they become tomorrow.
Yet, Nigeria’s teaching workforce continues to face significant pressures, including a shortage of nearly 200,000 primary school teachers, placing additional demands on an already stretched system.
This World Teachers’ Day, we celebrate teachers while recognising the importance of protecting the teaching profession, elevating its status, and creating the conditions that enable educators thrive.
At Oando Foundation, we’ve empowered over 4,500 educators, and remain committed to strengthening the teaching workforce through initiatives that equip teachers with the skills, resources and support they need to make a lasting difference in the lives of learners.
Standing with teachers mean investing in the educators shaping our future.
Happy World Teachers’ Day!

Nigeria at 66: celebrating how far we’ve come, and the possibilities ahead.
A nation’s future is shaped by the opportunities it creates for its people. For every child who has access to quality education, we take another step towards the Nigeria we aspire to build.
This Independence Day, we celebrate the promise of Nigeria’s children, and the role education plays in unlocking it.
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria.

750million+ children. $3.5 billion in commitments. One clear message: Education can’t wait.
Last week at #UNGA81, we witnessed a defining moment for global education. Co-hosted by Nigeria and Italy, the @GPforEducation mobilised over $3.5 billion to support 750M+ vulnerable children in urgent need of quality learning.
Why does this matter?
- These contributions will enable countries, including Nigeria, unlock additional financing and expand the resources available to deliver our education priorities.
- For Oando Foundation, this builds on our work with Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Education and GPE. Through our role on the Education Technical Working Group, we’re helping mobilize private sector support for national education priorities.
- It also presents a unique opportunity for private sector and foundations to move beyond individual interventions and strategically contribute to coordinated financing, partnerships and solutions.
The momentum behind #MultiplyPossibility is proof that when the private sector and government align, we win together.

What changes when teachers have the right tools to meet learners where they are?
For 330+ educators in Plateau State, it starts with a stronger approach to teaching.
Through LEARNOVATE-FLIP, educators are being trained in structured Early Grade Reading pedagogy and Social & Emotional Learning (SEL), strengthening their ability to deliver effective instruction and respond to the diverse needs of early-grade learners.
The training focuses on practical strategies that can be applied in the classroom; from strengthening reading instruction to creating supportive learning environments where children can engage, participate and progress.

The next chapter of LEARNOVATE-FLIP is here.
From Adamawa, Ebonyi, Plateau and Sokoto to Lagos, LEARNOVATE-FLIP is expanding its reach and deepening impact across target states.
In alignment with the Federal Ministry of Education’s reinstatement of English as the primary language of instruction across all grade levels in public primary schools, Oando Foundation will continue implementation of the LEARNOVATE-FLIP in Plateau State and expand programme activities to Lagos State.
Phase II will strengthen the delivery of Early Grade Reading for Primary 1 – 3, and remedial learning support through Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) methodology; helping teachers better respond to learners’ needs and children strengthen proficiency skills in foundational literacy and numeracy.
This next phase is about taking what works further, in collaboration with state education agencies — strengthening teaching, improving classroom practice and creating stronger foundations for learning.

What does a clean plate have to do with a clean city? More than you might think. 🌍🍽️
What happens after we eat matters. Food scraps, packaging and other waste that are poorly disposed can end up in streets, drains and waterways, affecting the health and cleanliness of our communities.
Through the Clean Our World (COW) Project, Oando Foundation is helping children understand these connections early. Through environmental education, hands-on learning and eco clubs, young learners are discovering how everyday choices around food, waste and the environment can contribute to cleaner communities.
This World Cleanup Day, “From Clean Plates to Clean Cities” is a reminder that change starts with what each of us does — and becomes more powerful when we do it together.
