Is anyone better off than they were 2 years ago?
Obama 🔥: "The president wasn't even mad about the Saddam Hussein comparison! That part didn't bother him. But he was very upset about the Cheesecake Factory comments. He took great umbrage. The mobilized a whole of government response to that joke! They told the Treasury Secretary to hold a press conference in front of the Cheesecake Factory. This really happened."

This was an article in the New York Times two years ago.
He’s done all of it.
Saddam-chic. Not sure the faux “outrage” about the Cheesecake Factory comment is landing @FoxNews suggest you return to the evergreen: “MIGRANT CARAVAN, LOOK BROWN PEOPLE. EVERYBODY’S GONNA DIE!”
Gonna be great when Vance has to swear El Sayed in come January
Abdul, born and raised Michigan, is not "attached" to America, corrupted, the same argument used for generations to cast Jews as a sinister outside force. The attempt to paint Muslims in this way, immigrants, trans people, comedians, the media, the colleges, the Democrats, etc, etc. - it is not JUST that this kind of politics will come for Jews. It's already here, in the alt-right staffers in congressional offices, in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories gaining increasing purchase on the right, podcasters just asking questions about the Holocaust, great replacement theory, goyslop, etc, etc, etc. And as Vance is making clear, it won't end with Trump. The more successful a movement based on dominance and hatred and protecting "real" Americans, the more I worry about the safety of Jews in this country. The midterms are a chance to check MAGA, halt this rise, and in Michigan prove it ineffective. Is there anti-semitism on the left? YES. Of course. We ought to call that out directly, and reject it as wrong and toxic and self-destructive, which I won't stop doing. But we cannot lose sight of what we are facing from the MAGA right. These are the stakes to me.
Essential reading. If whiny losers try to subvert the election by refusing to seat winning candidates we need to rise up and hit the streets like Serbia, Hungary and Israel have done recently.

Trump says he’s on the ballot but really decency is on the ballot.
President Trump strongly defends Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mom. Trump: “That took a lot of courage to do but, essentially, what she was really doing was saving Ohio from making a truly horrible choice! The Press is trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it’s so good! Who wouldn’t use such an Ad? I would, it’s called, ‘hitting pay dirt.’”
The video is awful. It’s what happens when police shoot into a moving car for the alleged crime of … stealing diapers?!
viewed from a distance we can assume--the world can assume--that the legal ruling by the AG that the killing of a Black child was "justified" reflects the expectations of the community (i.e., a largely white, Republican or MAGA constituency). public officials like the AG as well as the police reflect the attitudes of the public which they represent. (the pretense was that the police officers were "threatened" by the Black mother.)
if the AG had ruled otherwise, she would have received death threats. she knew this. it is common in MAGA communities: you will be punished if you fail to follow the party line.
on a national level, T***p threatens political adversaries & critics within even his own party. still he maintains enough MAGA supporters to persevere while any other president would have been impeached/convicted months ago.

To every Texan who’s ever wondered if anyone in power is paying attention: We are taking our state back.
Because a little bit of hope is a dangerous thing.

This is the post of the year.
Dear Secretary Bessent @SecScottBessent,
My name is Everett Stern. In 2010 I was a compliance officer at @HSBC. From a back office in New Castle, Delaware, I watched billions of dollars move to drug cartels, sanctioned regimes, and terrorist organizations. The enemies of the United States. I documented it, I escalated it, and when the bank would not act, I took it to the @FBI, the @CIA, and eventually the @SECGov.
The result was a $1.92 billion settlement. At the time, it was one of the largest in American history. It was also about five weeks of the bank’s profit. Not one banker was charged. Not one went to prison.
I paid a different price. I lost my career, my savings, and my place in the industry I had trained for. I was blacklisted. Every door in American finance closed at once. I slept on a camping cot in a 300 square foot apartment because I could not afford a bed, and I waited tables at @PFChangs to eat. I tell you this not for sympathy, but so you understand that I know exactly what it costs to do the right thing in American finance, and exactly how little the system does in return.
I made that sacrifice because I believed it would change something.
Yesterday, your department fined @BankofAmerica $1.2 billion for failing to report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions, some of it tied by your own findings to Chinese laundering networks, narcotics, and the southwest border, alongside 475 apparent sanctions violations touching Russia, Iran, and global terrorism. The bank admitted it willfully violated the Bank Secrecy Act.
Fourteen years after HSBC. A bank with “America” in its name. And once again, not one individual charged.
Secretary Bessent, I want to say plainly what I believe you already know. The fines are not working.
A fine is paid by shareholders, absorbed by the balance sheet, and forgotten by the next earnings call. Bank of America reported earnings this morning. Nobody who set the alert thresholds, nobody who decided the 2024 cease and desist could wait, nobody who chose the backlog over the law will lose a single thing they value. Their lives are untouched. That is the entire reason the behavior repeats.
This is money laundering. This is blood money. Money that reaches a cartel buys fentanyl that kills Americans. Money that reaches a terrorist organization buys the next attack. This country has fought a war on drugs and a war on terror for decades, at enormous cost in lives and treasure, and all the while we have allowed the financing to flow through institutions we charter and regulate. Cut off the money and we win. We have never seriously tried.
There is also a question of equal justice that I cannot let go.
Before I walked into the FBI building to report HSBC, I stopped in front of the Great Seal on the wall and read the words engraved beneath it: “Justice is the defense of our liberty.” I believed that. I still want to. But every day in this country, people go to prison for crimes that are nothing next to moving money for the people who want Americans dead. A suit, a title, and a corporate badge should not be a shield from the consequences that apply to everyone else. If a street dealer goes to prison for what he sells, the banker who moved the cartel’s money should be standing next to him.
I also want to raise something that is rarely said in these conversations. Why has no one inside Bank of America come forward the way I did? The answer is that everyone in American banking knows what happened to me, and to the whistleblowers who came after. The last person who spoke up is the only policy anyone believes. That is a culture problem, and it starts with leadership, in the banks and in the agencies that regulate them.
This is not a political issue. It has spanned administrations of both parties. It is a national security issue, and I am asking you to treat it as one.
Three things would change the math overnight.
Refer individuals for criminal prosecution. Not the analyst in the queue. The executives who set the thresholds and chose the risk. One banker in handcuffs would do more than every fine in Treasury’s history combined.
End “too big to jail.” An institution cannot be too big to fail and too big to jail at the same time. If it is the first, it must be held to a higher standard, not a lower one.
And if Bank of America will not act as America’s bank, review its charter. A national charter is a privilege granted on behalf of the American people. It should be conditioned on not moving money for the people trying to kill them.
Secretary Bessent, you said yesterday that these actions send a clear message that even the biggest institutions are not above the law. With respect, the institution was never the problem. The people inside it are above the law, and they know it. Until that changes, I will keep writing letters like this one, and the next bank will keep paying the next fine.
I gave up everything I had to stop this. I am asking you to use the power you have to finish it.
Respectfully,
Everett A. Stern

I spent 15+ years investigating Russian secret services and organized crime. I know people who served with Putin in the KGB and sat in on his deals with St. Petersburg crime bosses. So let me explain the "diesel deal" the way they would — in gangster slang. Because that's the language Putin actually thinks in.
First, the facts.
Putin just raised Russia's 2027 military budget by 27% to a record 17.1 trillion rubles — about $203 billion. Who budgets that kind of money for a war they're about to end?
The FT reported yesterday that Western intelligence has warned the heads of European defense companies that Russia is plotting to assassinate them.
Since September, Tusk, Macron and the intelligence services of Poland, Czechia, Latvia, Belgium, France and Denmark have all warned that Russian hybrid attacks — including drone and missile strikes — will intensify in the coming months.
None of this looks like a country preparing for peace.
Who actually benefits?
🇺🇸 What the US gets: Every serious analysis I've read says the announced volumes won't move American diesel prices. This is a PR move for Trump before the midterms — a story about prices that will "very, very soon" come down once his friend Vladimir's tankers reach US shores, plus the chance to claim he ended another war (I've lost count). The only US "benefit" is Trump's rating.
🇷🇺 What Russia gets: billions of dollars to keep funding its genocidal war against Ukrainians. Sanctions relief. A demonstration of power to the rest of the world. A deeper rift between the US and its European allies. And a real chance to disrupt US weapons and intelligence flowing to Ukraine.
So what is Putin's actual goal?
Trump's disapproval is at record highs and polls show his party will most likely loose midterm elections. In less than a month his power will be badly weakened. Why would Putin sign a long-term peace deal with a lame duck whose signature will soon be scrutinized at best and annulled at worst?
He wouldn't. And here's where the slang comes in.
In the eyes of Putin and his siloviki, Trump is a baryga — a greedy, unscrupulous businessman who puts profit above law and principle. Gangsters despise barygas, but they love using them. The goal is always to turn a baryga into a lokh — a mark, an outsider who doesn't understand the rules of the underworld and gets played to serve the gang's interests.
By signing the diesel deal, Putin plays two scenarios at once:
A) The deal miraculously helps his lokh keep power — great.
B) The deal changes nothing, the baryga loses the midterms — but by then it has already done its job: inflamed US political tensions and acted as arson inside the American system.
Putin knows that the majority of Americans support Ukraine. He knows that by signing, Trump draws unprecedented criticism, including from his own party. And he knows a baryga won't give up power easily, because he will have to answer for everything he did in office — this deal included. That's classic gangster/secret-service method: tie a man to your organization, make him a partner in your crimes, so he can't walk away.
Pouring more oil — diesel, in this case — onto the most explosive fault lines of American politics, raising the stakes for Trump and pushing him past the point of no return serves Putin far better than a peace deal that could be voided within months.
Remember: Putin's goal in the West is chaos, not peace.
WTAF happened to Israelis? 80 years since they endured a genocide, they're supporting one.
So wealth distribution is good … sometimes?
Susan Dell, wife of Dell Technologies CEO Michael Dell, encouraged families to register for Trump Accounts while speaking alongside the president on Wednesday. After Mrs. Dell’s speech, President Trump asked Mr. Dell whether his wife was considering running for office and gave her his "complete and total endorsement." The Dells previously pledged a donation of $6.25 billion to the Trump Accounts.
Tina Peters in the WH, Donnie hinting the Russ Vought has “surprises” in store, the FBI and ICE possibly showing up at polling places, fences around DC, an unpopular Dementia-addled criminal desperate to escape consequences. What could go wrong?
