This is important: we shouldn’t allow these threats to have us chasing around after the far-right. We need to build up rapid response and community resilience, not be trapped into just reacting to the racists.

Over the past week we have seen social media users spreading rumours and speculation about far-right protests - sharing unattributed screenshots of callouts, or even just forwarded messages - without any corroborating evidence that the purported threat amounts to anything.

The BNP used to spread rumours about turning up to areas with big Muslim communities. In the end, we'd mobilise in big numbers and clash with the police. Social media misinformation has significantly amplified that risk. Verify things before spreading them.
