From @The_SoniaShaw at CONNECT Singapore:
⢠Liquid assets like Treasuries and equities are likely to move onchain first
⢠Secondary markets remain one of the biggest gaps
⢠For tokenization to work at scale, compliance, issuance and secondary markets have to work together

đĽ INSIGHT: From tokenized real estate to AI-driven investing, where is onchain finance heading?
@OneAsset_io founder and CEO Sonia Shaw (@The_SoniaShaw) joins Cointelegraph at CONNECT Singapore to share her vision.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS |
How much value is held onchain tells only part of the story.
Tokenized Treasury products account for roughly $14.5 billion in distributed value. Meanwhile, Broadridgeâs repo platform processed an average of $359 billion in transactions per day in September.
One measures assets outstanding. The other measures financing activity.
Understanding both gives a more complete picture of how tokenization is being used in institutional markets.

Some decisions shaping tokenized real estate are being made outside real estate.
As central banks develop digital settlement arrangements, are private-market transactions part of the design?
For those of us building here, itâs worth asking now.
2016: DTCC hosted a symposium to cut through the blockchain hype.
2026: Its Tokenization Service is live.
Ten years from symposium to production.
The DTCC Tokenization Service is now live, and this is only the beginning.

In tokenization, "whose problem?" has more than one answer.
The issuer wants to raise capital. The investor may want to sell, or borrow against what they hold.
A product can meet one and miss the other.
@The_SoniaShaw, speaking at @Cointelegraph CONNECT Singapore.
Spooky szn is here, but the real jumpscare is finding out you canât sell your investment when you want to.
Would you issue a stablecoin if you ran a community bank?
The OCC is encouraging smaller banks to consider it. But issuance brings reserve management, redemption and compliance obligations.
Is the bigger opportunity in issuing the token, or helping customers use existing ones?
The OCC wants community banks to help shape the future of payments and is encouraging the development of payment stablecoin capabilities within the community banking sector. Interested community banks are encouraged to consider applying to become, or for a subsidiary to become, a permitted payment stablecoin issuer, as applicable. These opportunities complement the OCCâs Community Bank Comeback initiatives to right-size regulation and tailor supervision so community banks can grow, compete, and continue serving their communities. A building can collect rent and still struggle to refinance.
Higher rates, lower valuations, or smaller loans can force owners to add equity, even when tenants keep paying.
Underwrite the building. Then underwrite the debt.
Which one do you buy? And can you swap between them?

Before investing in tokenized real estate, understand how you can exit.
Is there an active secondary market? Who provides the bids? Does liquidity depend on the platform buying tokens back?
These are very different arrangements, with different risks for investors. đ
Everyone talks about RWA liquidity. But who is on the other side of the exit?
A token can change hands in seconds. A sale still needs a cash buyer.
A BIS working paper found that the liquidity advantage in tokenized real estate depended on platform buybacks.
Those buybacks gave sellers an exit, but came with higher insolvency risk for the platform.
Tokenization can make an asset transferable. It canât manufacture a buyer.

Same idea of ownership. Very different plumbing.
At last weekâs RWA Leaders Summit in Dubai, our CEO @The_SoniaShaw joined industry leaders to discuss how tokenized assets reach investors, institutional participation and the development of secondary markets.
An important conversation as investors become more selective.
At @Cointelegraph CONNECT, our CEO @The_SoniaShaw spoke about changing expectations for investor exits.
As crypto markets mature, quick exits are harder to count on, putting greater emphasis on business fundamentals.
