🧩 You already pay for Claude and ChatGPT, but Claude Code only speaks Anthropic and Codex only speaks OpenAI — so switching one agent to another vendor means hand-editing its config. Meet magpie by @yetone: a free, MIT-licensed Mac app that runs a gateway on 127.0.0.1:3425 and points each coding agent at whichever provider you added. Version 0.1.2627, released November 1, 2026. 🔀 Pick a model per agent The menu bar lists what each agent currently runs — Codex, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenCode and others. Click a value to change it; magpie rewrites only the key you changed, and the next session uses the new model. 🔁 Translate between protocols Codex only speaks OpenAI Responses, Claude Code only speaks Anthropic Messages, and Gemini CLI speaks Gemini. magpie speaks all three and translates in both directions, including streaming, tool calls and reasoning. ⏱️ Warm up an account window 0.1.2627 adds the ability to warm up a Codex or Claude account card before its 5-hour usage window begins. The 0.1.2626 build also fixed alias parsing so Magpie's own aliases keep the vendor's model name, and fixed routing for remote Codex models so they receive Codex's Responses Lite as originally sent. 🧰 Add a provider once DeepSeek, Kimi, GLM, Qwen, MiniMax, OpenRouter, Ollama, or the Claude and ChatGPT plans you already pay for: add it once, then reuse it from any agent instead of editing each app's settings. Why it's worth watching: it handles one narrow job — one model list per agent, changed from a menu bar panel. ✅ Best for developers who already run several coding agents and hold more than one provider key. This is not a first release (the project dates to September 2026), and 0.1.2627 is a small build: one warm-up control plus routing fixes. Boundaries: free and open source under MIT. macOS 12 or later, with magpie-darwin-arm64.dmg and magpie-darwin-amd64.dmg as the two macOS builds. 🖮 Some shortcuts work from a real keyboard and fail from a mouse button. Meet OpenLogi by @AprilNEA: a free, MIT/Apache-2.0 Mac app that replaces Logitech Options+. Version 0.8.19 shipped October 29, 2026. ⌨️ Press keys on a virtual keyboard Since 0.8.16, a button that sends a keyboard shortcut presses the keys on a virtual keyboard named "OpenLogi Virtual Keyboard". macOS handles these keys the way it handles keys from a USB keyboard. Apple granted OpenLogi the restricted HID virtual-device entitlement for this. If macOS does not let OpenLogi create the virtual keyboard, it types the keys the old way. 🔁 Recover after a receiver switch 0.8.19 recovers mouse capture across Bluetooth and Bolt switches. It also keeps the macOS relaunch successor out of the agent's process group. 🎚 Keep held modifiers on re-posted keys 0.8.19 keeps held modifiers on re-posted media keys. The `openlogi diag battery` command now reads 0x1001 battery voltage. 📄 Read the config as a file Customize mouse buttons, keyboard shortcuts and directional gestures. Configure DPI presets, SmartShift wheel behavior and native scroll inversion on devices that expose the required HID++ features. An eight-slot Actions Ring holds per-app profiles. A CLI and a plain-text TOML configuration sit beside the GUI. Local customization needs no account and no subscription. Why it's worth watching: ✅ you own a Logitech mouse or keyboard and would rather keep the button map in a text file than in a vendor app. The repository lists 55 releases, so 0.8.19 is an update, not a debut. OpenNavo counts nine in the last 30 days. Which controls exist depends on what each device exposes over HID++. Boundaries: macOS 13 or later, separate Apple silicon and Intel downloads, and the project says it is under active development and not yet stable. Quit Logi Options+ first: both compete for HID++ access and only one can own a receiver at a time. OpenLogi is not affiliated with Logitech. 🎮 You bought the Mac for the battery, then spent an evening explaining to Steam why the game still says Windows only. Meet Highball by gauthierpiarrette: a free, GPL-3.0 Mac app that runs Windows games on Apple Silicon. Version 0.10.23, published 31 October 2026. 🛒 Plug GOG and Battle.net into the same library GOG arrives with its library, installs, achievements and cloud saves, and Battle.net games now appear in the library too, next to Steam and Epic. One launcher list, not four half-working ones. 🌲 Get Forza Horizon 6's trees and liveries back On D3DMetal the game now draws trees, vinyls and some other textures correctly, and DLSS goes through MetalFX. Accept the r28 engine Play offers, then flip Enable DLSS (MetalFX) in that environment's Graphics settings. The tenth-of-a-second hitch about once a second is still there; it comes from the game's copy protection under Rosetta. 🗂️ Take back control of what the list shows Hide games you are done with, leave out Steam for Mac's games, and move a single Epic game to another environment from its page. Epic games now take launch arguments. Engine pickers say what each engine carries, and Settings can delete engines no environment uses. 🎮 Test the controller before you blame the game Test controllers opens Wine's Game Controllers panel for an environment, so a missing joystick, yoke or throttle is a setting question, not a mystery. A failed first setup now logs what Wine had and offers an engine reinstall when files are gone, and launch logs drop secrets and MoltenVK's long info output. Why it's worth watching: ✅ You have a Steam, Epic, GOG or Battle.net library and an Apple Silicon Mac. ✅ You want provenance for compatibility claims instead of a promise. ✅ You would rather toggle a setting than install a second OS. To be clear, this is an update, not a new release: the repository dates from 23 August 2026 and the app is still at 0.10.x. It is also not universal. Highball's own documentation is blunt: kernel anti-cheat cannot work, because Valorant, Fortnite, Destiny 2 and Call of Duty load Windows kernel drivers that no compatibility layer can provide on any Mac, and the app flags them before you download 80 GB. Boundaries: free, GPL-3.0, no paid tier. Notarized DMG, Apple Silicon only, macOS 14 or later. No account and no telemetry; engines live on your own disk. First run takes about 20 minutes while the engine downloads and Steam updates itself. Discover Highball on OpenNavo: opennavo.com/apps/highball #MacApps #MacGaming #AppleSilicon #OpenSource

💸 A local model is easy to demo and hard to keep fast once several agents share one Mac. Meet TensorFold by Ash (@ashxhart): a free, Apache-2.0 Mac app that serves models from a Zig binary, straight onto Metal, with no Python and no MLX installation. The workspace is still beta (1.0.0-beta.10, Oct 25, 2026); the engine it shares shipped 1.2.0 on Oct 31, 2026. ⚡ Faster Qwen3.8-27B decoding 1.2.0 speeds up the 4-bit MLX Qwen3.8-27B at every stream count in the release notes: on an M3 Ultra with DFlash2, 80.0 → 91.6 tok/s on one stream and 145.2 → 209.4 tok/s at 16. On an M5 Ultra, the same model goes 168.5 → 178.3 at one stream and 378.5 → 474.0 at 16. 🧠 A 428B model on one Mac The new MiniMax-M3.1-Flash family serves MiniMax's 428B-A23B on a single 256 GB M5 Ultra, with tools, structured output, thinking on or off, images, the prompt cache, two streams and DFlash2 drafts. 🖥️ More hardware, same answers CUDA picks up NVIDIA's NVFP4 Qwen3.6-35B-A3B and turboderp's dense EXL3 Qwen3.8-27B; Intel's Arc Pro B70 gets Gemma 4 E4B. Every speedup keeps replies token-equal to 1.1.9. One exception is deliberate: pictures on the Qwen-VL models are now prepared the way the checkpoints' own processor prepares them, so replies to pictures can differ slightly. Text-only replies are unchanged. 📦 Prompt chunks that stop crawling On an M1 Pro, a 2,048-row LFM2.5-24B-A2B prompt chunk drops from 243 s to 3.9 s, and 16 greedy streams together go from 11 to 17 tok/s up to 116 to 123 tok/s. A 2,000-message DeepSeek-V4.1 chat peaks at 15 MB instead of 154 MB while its template renders. Why it's worth watching: ✅ you already serve local models from a shell and want Metal speed without a Python stack; ✅ you want coding workers on Git worktrees with per-action approval. This is an engine update, not a new app launch: the beta workspace has shipped since mid-October, and that beta still bundles engine 1.1.4 — these numbers land in the app window when the build catches up. Boundaries: engine 1.2.0 is Apache-2.0 and free; the macOS build is Apple silicon only and needs macOS 13.3 or later; CUDA builds need NVIDIA driver R580 or newer on Linux; model weights carry their own licenses. 🧹 A single 13,000-file skill made every launch of Skills Manager wait about 90 seconds on Windows. Version 1.43.2 is the release that stops rescanning the whole library at startup. Meet Skills Manager by xingkongliang: a free, MIT-licensed Mac app that keeps your skills in one central library (default ~/.skills-manager) and deploys each of them to 50+ coding tools by symlink or copy. Version 1.43.2 was published on October 31, 2026. ⚡ Stop re-reading every skill file at launch Every launch, and every skills-manager-cli command, used to read all files of all skills to see whether anything had changed. A skill is now read again only when its files' names, sizes or modification times change, and the first launch after updating still reads everything once. 🩹 Open skills again on older macOS On WebKit before Safari 16.4 — a Mac still on Monterey without the newest Safari, for example — opening a SKILL.md hit a regular-expression feature the engine does not support, and the window went black until you quit the app. 1.43.2 shows those skills as plain Markdown instead: tables, checklists and strikethrough appear as text. 🧾 Hide Windows line endings in the preview A SKILL.md saved with Windows line endings, or one whose metadata header runs to the end of the file, used to print that header inside the preview. An empty header also swallowed the instructions up to the next --- line. Both cases are handled now. Why it's worth watching: ✅ Large skill libraries: the incremental check is the change that stops a full rescan at every launch. This is a maintenance release, not a new app, and nothing in 1.43.2 changes how a skill is written — the three changes are about reading them. Boundaries: free, MIT-licensed; separate Apple Silicon and Intel .dmg builds; also available for Windows and Linux; on older macOS the preview falls back to plain Markdown. 🔌 You plug in the backup drive, and macOS mounts it wherever it likes — or worse, your NAS share quietly dies at 2 a.m. and every Finder window hangs. Meet MountMate by Meo: a free, MIT-licensed Mac menu bar app for mounting, unmounting and ejecting external drives and network shares. Version 6.4 shipped on October 31, 2026. ⌨️ Automate mounts from Shortcuts Mount All Volumes, Unmount All Volumes and Mount Network Share are now Shortcuts actions. Mount Volume and Mount Network Share return the mount point, such as /Volumes/Backup, so a shortcut can mount a NAS, run rsync on that folder and unmount it without guessing the path. Three more actions report what is already mounted: Get Mounted Volumes, Get Network Shares and Is Volume Mounted. 🔒 Mount a share read-only The network share sheet has a Mount Read-Only switch, off by default. A NAS backup share can be opened and copied from, but nothing on it can be changed. Read-only mounts show a badge in their row. 🌙 Unmount a drive once it goes quiet Right-click a volume and choose Unmount When Idle: 1, 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes without reads or writes. The unmount is never forced, so a volume still in use stays mounted and is tried again later. Internal disks, disk images and network shares are never affected. 🔁 Come back after sleep and dropped connections Mount Again on Wake is on by default: disks removed by "Unmount All Disks on Sleep" return when the Mac wakes, while disks you unmounted yourself stay unmounted. Keep Alive now checks that each mounted share actually answers, giving it up to 10 seconds, and remounts one that stopped responding instead of leaving Finder hanging. 🩺 Collect evidence before filing a bug Settings → General → Logs has Copy Diagnostics: the MountMate and macOS versions, your on/off settings and the last hour of the log, ready to paste into a report. Passwords, paths, disk names and share names are left out. Why it's worth watching: ✅ for anyone juggling an external SSD, a Time Machine disk and a home NAS who is tired of opening Disk Utility. It is not a new app — 6.4 is an update to a menu bar utility that ships every couple of weeks — and it will not fix a flaky router or a failing enclosure. Boundaries: free and open source under MIT, with 516 GitHub stars. macOS 13 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Install with brew install --cask mountmate, or download the 6 MB DMG from the GitHub release. Discover MountMate on OpenNavo: opennavo.com/apps/mountmate #MacApps #NAS #MenuBar #OpenSource

🧠 Four coding agents are running and you cannot tell which one is waiting on you. Meet Herdr by @herdrdev: a free, Apache-2.0 Mac app for coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex. Version 0.1.10 shipped on October 30, 2026. 🗂 One space per repo, one tab per task The sidebar and the tab show which agent needs you — working, done or waiting. You stop cycling through windows to find the one that needs an answer. 🔌 Quit the window, the terminals stay Agents run inside herdr-core, a small server on your machine, not inside the window. Closing the app, updating it or letting it crash leaves every terminal where it was. That is the part that changes the mental model: the window is a view, not the process. 🖥 Every machine in the same sidebar Add a server, VM or cloud sandbox over SSH and its spaces and agents appear under that machine's name in the same sidebar. Their agents keep running there while your laptop sleeps, so a long review or test run is not tied to an open window. 🛠 The app is a folder your agent can rewrite Layout, sidebar, tabs, keys, sounds and themes are plain files under ~/.config/herdr-app, and an AGENTS.md in that folder explains them to your agent. Ask for a timer on each tab or a git graph beside the pane and the agent edits a mod file instead of you hunting through a settings dialog. What 0.1.10 actually changed: images that Claude Code, yazi and other programs draw with kitty placeholders now render at the right size on Retina screens; Cmd+V pastes copied files and screenshots into an agent; dragging a selection past the top or bottom of a terminal scrolls it; the + menu starts agents with keys 1 to 9. Why it's worth watching: ✅ Worth a look if you already keep two or more agents in terminal tabs and lose track of which one needs you. The daemon-backed sessions and the file-based UI are the reason to try it. 0.1.10 is an update, not a first release — the desktop app's repository dates from October 16, 2026. It is not a replacement for your shell, your editor or your agent: it runs real terminals and leaves the agent workflow as it is. Boundary: free and open source under Apache-2.0. Requires macOS 11 or later and an Apple silicon Mac; the Homebrew cask ships no Intel build. It updates itself. 🎛️ Wi-Fi, battery and volume in three separate menu bar icons means three places to look. Status Trio 1.8.0 shows all of them in one icon, and now adds the battery's power flow. Meet Status Trio by lingyired: a free, Apache-2.0, open-source menu bar app that puts Wi-Fi, battery and volume in one configurable icon. Version 1.8.0 shipped on October 29, 2026. 🔋 Watch the watts, not just the percentage The Battery Details page now estimates charger input, the power actually flowing into the battery, and the power the system is drawing. Charger input stays off until you turn it on; the other two readings are on by default. 📊 Rank what is draining the battery An optional CPU energy impact list ranks up to five apps from recent samples, and you can set the sampling interval anywhere from 10 to 60 seconds. When energy counters are unavailable it falls back to CPU activity. It is not total app energy use, and it is not a copy of the macOS "Using Significant Energy" list. 🔌 Fill up now, then put the limit back On supported Apple silicon Macs running macOS 26.4 or later, Charge to Full Now temporarily overrides the native charge limit, and Cancel Charge to Full restores it. It rides on a private PowerUI interface, and the limit can stay at 100% after charging finishes — cancel it or reset it in System Settings. 🖥️ Give external speakers a volume control A new BetterDisplay volume method controls external displays or audio outputs whose volume macOS cannot handle directly, with automatic or manual display matching and visible connection and error states. Native writable volume still wins where it exists, Standard/DDC mode can be restored at any time, and Status Trio never launches BetterDisplay or changes its settings for you. Why it's worth watching: ✅ people who keep the menu bar tight and check battery health or drain during real work — the readings land on the icon they already look at. This is not a first release: 1.7.5 shipped three days earlier. It is also not a full system monitor — the energy list covers five apps, not everything running. Boundaries: free and Apache-2.0, macOS 13 or later, universal for Apple silicon and Intel, signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. 🔑 You press ⌘⇧G and the wrong app answers. macOS only checks its own shortcuts, so third-party apps, Karabiner rules and Alfred all claim keys without a warning. Meet HotkeyClash by @kemalesensoy: a free, GPL-2.0 menu bar app for macOS 14 or later. Version 0.9.3 shipped on October 31, 2026, and it makes searching a conflict narrower while adding one more place it reads. 🔍 Search a single field Type key:u and you get every combination on the U key, with nothing else. app:finder matches app names only, action:copy matches actions only. A search without a prefix works exactly as it did before, so there is nothing to relearn. 📓 Obsidian's command hotkeys Obsidian keeps custom command hotkeys in its own settings, where they never show up in the menu bar. 0.9.3 reads them from every vault you have and marks them with an "In-App" badge. A global tool such as Karabiner on the same combination is reported as a real conflict; another app's menu item on it is reported as an app overlap instead. 🧭 What one scan covers Menu shortcuts of running apps through the Accessibility API, karabiner.json and skhdrc, Keyboard Maestro, BetterTouchTool, Hammerspoon and Alfred configs, and the macOS system shortcuts behind Mission Control, Spotlight and Screenshots. Why it's worth watching: ✅ if you run Raycast or Alfred next to Karabiner, a window manager and one or two automation tools, the first conflict is usually a mystery. It is not a new app, HotkeyClash has been on GitHub since June, and it will not stop two apps from wanting the same key. It tells you who claims what, and which shortcut most likely wins. Boundaries: free with no paid tier, GPL-2.0, macOS 14 or later, no telemetry and no account. It reads configs instead of remapping anything. OpenNavo 0.1.24 is out, and the headline is Local MCP: your AI app can now search the catalog for you, and still needs your click before it touches anything. Turn it on in Settings and copy the ready-made config into your AI app. It can look up apps. It can ask to install one, or move one to the Trash. Nothing happens until you click Allow in an OpenNavo confirmation window, and every request is written to a local activity log. The rest of the release: · App details got a redesign, with an "At a glance" card for source, price, system requirements and GitHub stars · Apps disabled by Homebrew show a notice instead of an install command · "Also known as" names now only show names in your language · Web installs and firewall alerts open in OpenNavo's own windows, with Deny or Block on the left and Allow clickable after a moment · Closing a confirmation window or switching away counts as Deny, including install and Trash requests from an AI app · Collection links list every app, including ones that will be skipped and why · Installed apps that left the public catalog can still be opened and managed Download 0.1.24 for macOS 13.0 or later: opennavo.com/download github.com/opennavo/OpenNavo… #MacApps #OpenSource #macOS #MCP

📅 Every calendar app wants your events inside its own cloud. renCal 0.9.0 keeps them as plaintext .ics files on your Mac — files you can grep, diff and back up — and now lets plugins add entire calendar views, not just themes. Meet renCal by @t4t5: a free, MIT-licensed Mac calendar that syncs two-way with Google, iCloud, Outlook and CalDAV through Caldir. Version 0.9.0 shipped on October 27, 2026. 🧩 Let plugins draw the view As of 0.9.0 a plugin can register its own calendar view, alongside themes and calendar providers. The board view is now a separate plugin: install it from the plugins page to keep using it. 📆 Zoom out to the year The new year view puts twelve months on one screen. Planning a quarter stops being a clicking exercise through month after month. 🔑 Keep sync passwords out of config files iCloud and CalDAV accounts can now read their password from a command (password_command), so the secret can stay in your keychain or password manager instead of a plaintext config. ⌨️ Type a sentence, move with hjkl Natural-language input ("lunch with Sarah tomorrow at 1pm") and Vim-style navigation are unchanged. 0.9.0 also fixes popovers for long multi-day events opening off-screen, and flicker when navigating on WebKitGTK 2.54. Why it's worth watching: ✅ For people who already run a CalDAV or iCloud calendar, want events as files they can read and back up, and are happy driving a calendar from the keyboard. It is not a new app, and not universal: the Mac build is Apple silicon only in this release, and the project is built for Omarchy first, with macOS alongside Linux. Boundaries: free and MIT-licensed, source on GitHub. The 0.9.0 macOS download is aarch64 only; Linux gets deb, rpm and AppImage builds. 🧩 One 200,000-rule filter list, one Safari content blocker capped at 150,000 rules: that's how an ad blocker quietly under-delivers. wBlock 3.2.3 (Oct 30, 2026) now splits the list instead of cutting it — free, GPL-3.0, 3,165 stars on GitHub. Meet wBlock by Skula (0xCUB3): a free, GPL-3.0 Safari content blocker for macOS 12.3 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Five extensions share up to 750,000 filter rules, because Safari gives a single content blocker 150,000. 🧱 Big lists get split, not silently cut Any list over 120,000 rules can now be spread across several content blockers with its exceptions intact, and if the converter does truncate, it says so. For anyone importing a full AdGuard list, that is the difference between "mostly blocked" and "blocked". 🎛 Per-site control, restored The site scope picker for cosmetic filtering is back, so hiding an element can stay on one site. URL-cleaning exceptions are respected too: a rule that strips tracking parameters no longer runs where you excluded it. 🛡 Global Privacy Control, caveat attached GPC is opt-in, and the setting now warns that sending the signal may make your browser more identifiable. 🌍 One more list in the catalog Persian Blocker joins the built-in filter catalog. Lists update hourly to weekly on macOS, and filter lists plus settings sync through iCloud. Why it's worth watching: ✅ You keep Safari as your default and want filter lists, a rules viewer, an element-hiding tool and per-site switches instead of an on/off toggle. This is a 3.2.3 update, not a new app: 3.2.1 shipped Oct 15, 3.2.2 on Oct 24, 3.2.3 on Oct 30. It is also not a silver bullet: more lists can break sites, and the developer recommends running one general-purpose blocker at a time. Boundaries: free, GPL-3.0, no subscription, no data collected. macOS 12.3 or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Install from the App Store or the official DMG, then enable the extensions in Safari. About 40 MB of memory while idle; iOS, iPadOS and visionOS builds exist too. Discover wBlock on OpenNavo: opennavo.com/apps/wblock #MacApps #Safari #Privacy #OpenSource

☕️ You start a long Claude Code run, close the lid, put the Mac in your bag — and the job dies because the machine sleeps. Double Shot is a free menu bar app built for that exact moment, and 1.0.7 (Oct 30, 2026) adds the case most keep-awake tools miss: your own agent. Meet Double Shot by Noah Elhadedy: a free, MIT-licensed Mac menu bar app. Version 1.0.7 was released on October 30, 2026. 🧩 Register an agent by name Open Settings → AI Agents → Your own agents and type a name, such as my_agent.py. From then on, Double Shot counts that agent as work, so the Mac stays awake for as long as it runs — lid closed too — and sleeps normally once it ends. 🔍 Match how you actually launch it It finds the agent however you start it: python my_agent.py, uv run, node, python -m, or a compiled binary with that name. Pasting the whole command works as well, so a wrapper script with flags is fine. 🖥 Show it in the panel While the agent runs, the panel lists it by name instead of a generic "agent working" line, so you can see which job is holding the Mac awake. 🔒 Keep the safety rails Lid-closed mode still uses one sudoers rule limited to four pmset commands, set up once with your password. A watchdog re-enables sleep within seconds if the app crashes, and the battery cutoff still stops the hold at 20% by default. Why it's worth watching: ✅ It fits people who run long local agent jobs — a LangChain script, a Node worker, a self-hosted agent binary — on a laptop that goes into a bag mid-run. This is a 1.0.7 update, not a first release: GitHub lists v1.0.0 through v1.0.7 between October 26 and October 30. The built-in switches cover Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor Agent, Copilot CLI, OpenCode, Amp and Aider; the new one is manual — you supply the name. Boundaries: free, MIT licensed. Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 14 or later, 2.5 MB download. Lid-closed mode needs an admin password once and leaves a rule in /etc/sudoers.d/doubleshot. The only network request is a daily update check that the README says carries no personal data. The app is not notarized by Apple, so a browser download needs "Open Anyway" once; the Homebrew cask clears the quarantine flag. 💾 Ventoy has no macOS installer. The official routes are booting a LiveCD from a second stick or running a Linux VM with USB passthrough — hours of setup for a five-minute job. Meet Mactoy by cashcon57: a free, MIT-licensed native Mac app that installs Ventoy on a USB drive. Version 0.8.0, released 30 October 2026. 💾 Install Ventoy from macOS. Mactoy downloads the release, partitions the stick (MBR by default, GPT one click away), writes the bootloader and formats the data partition as exFAT, with one administrator prompt instead of a terminal session full of raw device paths. 🖼️ Or flash a single image. Drop an .iso, .img, .img.xz or .img.gz and it writes with a progress bar — the one-boot stick case, without reaching for balenaEtcher. 🛡️ Safer writes, which is what 0.8.0 is about. It checks the image's SHA-256 before erasing anything, decompresses .xz and .gz while writing, reads the drive back afterwards, and offers Cancel only while stopping is still safe. The drive's serial number is part of the check that it is still the drive you confirmed. 🎨 Give the boot menu a theme. Pick from 14 community themes when installing or on an existing drive; new drives get Catppuccin Mocha unless you choose otherwise. Why it's worth watching: ✅ If you carry one stick with several installers on it, or you keep rebuilding Ventoy by hand from a Linux VM, this replaces that ritual with a native SwiftUI window. It is not a new app — 0.8.0 is an incremental release on a project that shipped themes in 0.7.0 — and it is not a cure-all. It needs administrator rights and raw disk access, which is also why it cannot ship on the Mac App Store. And the stick it produces will not start an Apple Silicon Mac: Ventoy boots PCs and Intel Macs. Free under MIT. macOS 13.5 or later, a universal build that covers Apple Silicon and Intel, signed and notarised. The project has around 254 stars at the time of writing. 🧩 Your coding agent finished three tasks while you were reading one diff — and all of them landed in the same working tree. Meet ThinkRail by @jetbrains: a free, Apache-2.0 Mac IDE built around the pi coding agent. Each task runs in its own git worktree, so parallel work does not fight over the same files. Version 0.3.0, released 29 October 2026. 🗂️ Review changes as files, not as a chat log. 0.3.0 merges the separate Changes view into one VS Code-like Files panel, so a review is a file tree you click through instead of a wall of diff text. Background results collapse into a single Resources-style row with their own round. 🐙 Keep the branch's next step in sight. The topbar now always shows Remote and Pull request, and names the branch's next step. GitHub review details and actions live in that same bar, so approving or catching up does not mean leaving the editor for a browser tab. 🌍 Read the interface in your language. This release translates the UI and lets you add your own language, which matters for a tool whose whole point is reading the agent's output closely. 📝 Sort workspaces without opening them. Mark a workspace read or unread, and the list stops being an undifferentiated queue. Chat can also render workspace files and before/after mockups through shared resource renderers. Why it's worth watching: ✅ If you already run more than one agent task per day and spend the evening untangling overlapping edits, per-task worktrees plus a file-first review panel is the part worth testing. It is not a new product launch — 0.3.0 is an incremental release on top of 0.2.0 — and it is not a cure-all. It runs the pi agent, so the model access and agent setup are what you bring; the project is young and its issue tracker is busy. Free under Apache-2.0. macOS 14 or later, with separate Apple Silicon and Intel DMGs. The desktop app is signed; the command line tool ships signed but not notarised. Around 6,661 stars and 360 forks at the time of writing. Discover ThinkRail on OpenNavo: opennavo.com/apps/thinkrail #MacApps #AICoding #OpenSource #AppleSilicon

🤖 Your Claude Code subscription only works inside Claude Code. Your DeepSeek key only works where you pasted it. Every coding agent is its own island — same models, separate logins, separate quota. Meet magpie by @yetone: a free, MIT-licensed Mac app that puts every agent's model in one place. Version 0.1.2328, released 31 October 2026. 🔀 Point every agent at one gateway. magpie runs a local gateway at 127.0.0.1:3425 that speaks OpenAI Chat and Responses, Anthropic Messages and Google Gemini. Codex asks in Responses, Claude Code asks in Messages, and magpie translates in both directions — streaming, tool calls and reasoning included. 🎛️ Pick each agent's model from the menu bar. One panel shows what Codex, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenCode and the rest are running. Change a value and magpie rewrites only that key in that agent's config; choose the native model and it puts back exactly what was there before. Profiles switch every agent at once. 🔐 Keep secrets out of the prompt. Agents paste whatever they read into the request — an .env, a token in a log. magpie swaps recognised values for placeholders such as {{API_KEY_k3v9x2mq}} before the request leaves your Mac, then puts the real values back in the reply, including streamed text and tool calls. Values stay in memory, never on disk. 🔋 Spend the quota you already pay for. Add several Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot or Grok accounts, or several keys for one vendor. For each request magpie picks the account whose window resets soonest, steps over rate-limited or empty ones, and retries the next account before your agent sees an error. Why it's worth watching: ✅ If you already run more than one coding agent, or pay for more than one model subscription, this is a Mac app that treats those accounts as one pool rather than separate logins. It is not a new release — magpie has been shipping 0.1.x builds several times a day, and 0.1.2328 is today's build — and it is not a cure-all. It works by rewriting each agent's config, and its provider presets cover twenty vendors, so what you get depends on the agent and provider you already use. Masking only catches what its rules or the optional local model identify, and a task about a secret itself needs that value allowed under Never mask. Free under MIT. macOS 11 or later, a 15 MB download on Apple Silicon or Intel, no Electron and no runtime. The gateway listens on localhost, and the app is signed, notarised and self-updating. This is a source-based introduction, not hands-on testing. Discover magpie on OpenNavo: opennavo.com/apps/magpie #MacApps #AIAgents #OpenSource #AppleSilicon

A good experience requires payment - if it's for commercial use, people should pay for it so it can be sustainable.
OpenBot is free for personal and non-commercial use and it will remain. Commercial use stays free through November 30. Paid commercial licenses start December 1. We wanted to explain a bit more about this

💻 Two Macs on one desk, a shared project folder, and last night's edit is on the wrong machine. Routing it through a cloud folder adds an upload, a download and an account to a local job. Meet Syncthing: a free, open-source Mac menu-bar app from the Syncthing community that runs its own bundled sync process and moves files between devices you have authorised. The current Mac bundle is 2.1.6-1, released 6 October. 🔗 Pair machines, not accounts. Both sides add each other's Device ID, and each shared folder must be accepted for that device before anything transfers. Those IDs come from certificate fingerprints, transfers are wrapped in TLS, and a lost Mac can be revoked from its peers. An ID identifies a machine; it is not a password. 📁 Give each folder a direction. Send & Receive is the default, Send Only ignores changes from other machines and offers Override Changes when the folder drifts out of sync; Receive Only applies incoming changes without pushing local edits back. An ignore list in the folder root keeps build output and caches out of the index. ⏳ Decide what happens to the replaced file. Versioning is off by default: Trash Can holds replaced files until a cleanout period expires, Simple keeps a fixed number of copies, and Staggered thins older ones by interval before a maximum age. Versions are archived only for changes received from another device, and deletions travel too, so keep a separate backup. Open the menu-bar icon for sync status, to reveal a shared folder in Finder or to pause a device, and switch on Start at login so sync returns after a restart. Folders in protected locations may need Full Disk Access, and a second Syncthing instance on the same configuration stops this one working. Free under MPL-2.0 for the bundled sync core; the Mac menu-bar wrapper is MIT-licensed. No account or subscription is involved.
