I understand the depth of public concern about the potential early release of those involved with the killing of PC Andrew Harper - and I share it. I fully appreciate the anguish of Andrew’s family and, more broadly, of all those victims and their families who may see those who caused them such harm not serve their full sentence. It is incumbent on me as Prime Minister to do everything within my power to minimise that possibility. And I am determined to do so. I have spent recent days considering in depth all of the issues involved and the range of advice I have received. I have been pushing for further progress. I have not accepted that it is impossible to do more. As a result, I have asked the Justice Secretary to fast-track the development of a plan for presentation to Parliament early next month to create more headroom within the prison system. It will be based on a range of options including the three strands of further work I asked him to initiate last week: increasing the rate of removal of foreign national offenders from the prison estate to their country of origin; finding an early resolution to the long-running injustice of IPP sentences, which could allow for the release of lower-risk prisoners; and making greater use of the entire prison estate including using the female estate for male offenders. I am increasingly confident that a more focused approach along these lines will allow us to reduce the number of people released early and, in the case of the most serious offenders like those convicted of the killing of PC Harper, prevent their early release altogether. In advance of the Justice Secretary’s proposals being presented to Parliament, we will seek to engage other political parties in discussions with the aim of gaining the widest possible public and political consensus on the approach being taken. Murderers have always been exempt and our actions have already ensured that rapists, serious child sex offenders and those convicted of grooming offences will never be released early. And today I have shown a determination to go further. However, I recognise that, even with all these changes, there will be concerns from many victims about who will still be released early for other offences. I am doing all I can, but it is simply not possible to prevent all offenders from being released early without the prison system collapsing.

The Restore Britain candidate for Greater Manchester mayor, Marlon West, has a daughter who is a rape gang survivor. Marlon would often spend his evenings driving in search of his daughter until three or four am while having work the following day. He often reported her missing to the police, who would sometimes turn up to his house many hours later. On one occasion he saw footage of the police saying not to bother even waking him. A multi-agency risk management meeting was eventually convened with children’s services and the police’s Missing from Home team. While the meeting was ongoing one of the police officers in attendance told Marlon to stop reporting his daughter missing. Marlon challenged this which resulted in the police officer shouting at him in front of all in attendance. The officer has since been dismissed. The social worker and manager present did not intervene but privately acknowledged he was right to continue to report his daughter missing. They refused to launch a formal complaint against the officer. After another missing episode Marlon was able to trace his daughter to a specific property. Despite repeated calls and reports of men entering the property both police and social services failed to remove her or issue an abduction warning notice. His daughter was later found to be the victim of criminal exploitation, including drug supply, prostitution and being forced to dig up a firearm. These acts were directed by the older woman amongst others. At this point the impact on Marlon was catastrophic. He was physically exhausted, anxious, depressed and lived in constant fear. He was attacked by masked individuals in his home with the police response delayed and dismissive. Despite his repeated attempts to help his daughter, he has experienced many instances of violence from her as a result of the trauma and grooming. He has experienced many assaults, received black eyes and had to sleep barricaded in his room. Marlon has since dedicated his life to stopping the rape gangs. He has done more than any politician to fight this evil. We are proud to back him to be the mayor of Greater Manchester, where he can end the rape gangs in the region for good.

The Universal Credit migrant figures are politically explosive because they destroy the central myth of the last decade. The public were promised controlled migration. They got record numbers. They were promised economic growth. They got stagnant living standards. They were promised workers. They got a welfare bill. Nearly 1.5 million migrants received Universal Credit last year, accounting for 15.6 per cent of all people who received it at some point during the 12 months to December 2025. That is not what voters were sold. And now Labour is under pressure over Shabana Mahmood’s plan to make migrants from the “Boriswave” wait up to 10 years before settlement and benefit access. Good. Because if someone has arrived recently, the first question should not be: how quickly can they access the welfare state? It should be: are they making a clear net contribution to the country? Britain’s welfare system was built as a safety net for a national community. It was not built to become an open-ended subsidy for the consequences of uncontrolled migration.

At the age of 34 as a British born man, I am casting my first ever vote. I’m ashamed to have waited this long, inaction by British voters has caused this country much harm, that changes for me tomorrow! #Restore
