If you dislike Oracle because of Batman: The Killing Joke (TKJ), you fundamentally misunderstand Oracle’s origins and what that identity did for Barbara Gordon. In other words, Oracle saved Barbara Gordon’s character both figuratively and literally. 🧵

To the Birds of Prey and succeeding Batgirls, Oracle served as a leader and mentor. Because of Oracle, Babs could develop and grow as a character. Because of Oracle, Babs was able to find herself again following TKJ. And it wasn’t in spite of her disability; it was with it.

Oracle took the treatment Barbara Gordon received in TKJ and let something positive grow out of it, instead of leaving her character stagnant with the injustices and unfair treatment she faced left unaddressed.
